Brit Sweep: September 28, 2014...

The weekend is coming to a close, so it's time to check out the songs making their way on to the official singles chart in the UK this week...

The biggest song in Britain is a debut from three of the hottest acts in mindless pop today, Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj, as their "Bang Bang" takes over the top spot in its first week on the chart. It's Jessie's third time at #1 (after "Price Tag" and "Domino"), Ariana's second behind "Problem", and believe it or not, Nicki's first as either a lead or a featured artist....

Next up at #25 is London-based garage-dance DJ Shift K3Y with "I Know", my "Brit Pick of the Week".  It's the follow-up to "Touch", which came in at #3...

American alt-rock band Imagine Dragons are in at #54 with "Warriors", a non-album track released in connection for promotion of a video game...

As modern rock trio alt-J enter the albums chart at #1 with their second album This Is All Yours, two selections from the set make the top-100 on their own. First at #58 is "Every Other Freckle"; the 'official' radio single, "Hunger of the Pine", peaked one notch lower at #59...

Redlight arrives at #59 with "9TS (90s Baby)". Two years ago the DJ made it to #5 with "Lost In Your Love"....

The other debut from alt-J at #91 is their current American single, "Left Hand Free"...

The final new entry of the week is an odd oldie, as American country star and American Idol winner Carrie Underwood comes in at #94 with an album track from her 2007 release Carnival Ride. The reason that "I Know You Won't" is here is thanks to an X Factor UK contestant performing it on the show...

Cheers!
