Brit Sweep: September 14, 2014...

The end of the weekend is finally here, and it's time to check out the songs making the official singles chart in the UK this week....

The new #1 song in the country (and my "Brit Pick of the Week") is the seventh time for Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris, who lands his third in a row (after "Under Control" and "Suumer") with "Blame". This time out John Newman handles the vocals; it's his own third time at the top as either a lead or featured artist...

Also arriving in the top ten at #6 is another electrodance track, this time from Ten Walls with "Walking With Elephants"...

Chris Brown returns at #10 with "New Flame" featuring Usher and rapper Rick Ross. It matches the peak of his last single "Loyal", both from his forthcoming X album...

Emo-punk band Fall Out Boy are back at #22 with "Centuries", the first single from their upcoming sixth studio album. It becomes their tenth top-40 hit in the UK; they made it to the runner-up spot in 2007 with "This Ain't A Scene, It's An Arms Race"...

American rapper Kid Ink is in at #53 with "Body Language" featuring vocal cameos from Usher and Tinashe. He reached the top-40 here last year with "Show Me" with Chris Brown (who also is entering with a song with Usher)...

Train lands at #58 with "Angel In Blue Jeans".  The American rock band has scored two top-10 hits in Britain with "Drive By" their biggest at #6...

British modern rock act Bastille has two songs making their debut on the top-100. First at #82 is the "official" seventh single from their expanded Bad Blood album, "Oblivion". Two of them, "Pompeii" and "Of The Night" (the latter from the expanded) almost topped the chart at #2...

Amelia Lily, a former third-place finalist on The X Factor UK, comes in at #83 with "California". Her first three singles made the top-40, with "You Bring Me Joy" topping out at #2 in 2012...

The "B-side" to Calvin Harris' "Blame", "C.U.B.A.", also makes in to the top-100 at #89...

(A singer named Sam Redden pops in at #92 with what seems like a cover of A Great Big World's "Say Something", but I can't find anything about him or the record. Oh well.)

Australian pop/comedy musical act the Janoskians dance into the #94 spot with "That's What She Said"...

The final debut of the week is the second Bastille entry, and another "B-Side", "Bad News"...

Cheers!
