Soul Sweep: August 23, 2014...






We're at the "hump" of this week's "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the radio and club charts in Billboard magazine, and right now I'm serving up the latest R&B hits....

On the main R&B/Hip Hop Airplay list, Schoolboy Q moved up to #1 where he stays this week with "Studio"...

The top debut of this week at #31 comes from Beyonce with a track from her self-titled album that features a speech from Nigerian writer Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. A remix of "***Flawless" with Nicki Minaj also just came out...

Minaj comes in at #36 on her own with "Anaconda". It samples the Sir Mix-A-Lot jam "Baby Got Back", which topped the pop chart in 1992, but only went to #27 on the R&B list in Billboard...



 Last week's top entry, "Buy The World" from producer Mike Will-Made-It with rappers Future, Lil' Wayne, and Kendrick Lamar, moves from #47 to #42 this week...


Newcomer Bobby Shmurda debuts at #43 with "Hot Boy"...


Usher follows up his #1 hit "Good Kisser" with "She Came To Give It To You" with Nicki Minaj, which comes in at #48. It's my "Soul Pick of the Week"...


Singer Adrian Marcel moves in at #49 with "2 A.M." featuring rapper Sage The Gemini...


Rapper Diggy, who is in real life Daniel Simmons, aka Run of Run DMC's son, drops in at #50 with "My Girl" featuring Trevor Jackson. Back in 2011 he went to #11 with "Do It Like You"...


Last week, Beyonce entered the chart for a week at #50 with her pop ballad "Pretty Hurts", then dropped off the list this frame...


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult R&B radio panel,  Michael Jackson and Justin Timberlake's "Love Never Felt So Good" hangs on at the top for a seventh week...

There's only been one new entry per week in the past two... last week's newbie is by George Tandy Jr, who went to the top-5 on this chart with "March". His new one, "Jaded", moves from #28 to #27...


As for this week, yet another Braxton sister, Traci, arrives with her first solo hit "Last Call" at #28. Sister Toni is at #18 with "Roller Coaster"...


Lastly, on the Rhythmic soul format, which includes more dance music in their playlists, Nico & Vinz's "Am I Wrong" deposes Tinashe's "2 On" at #1...

Last week's top debut on this chart with "Bang Bang" from Jessie J, Ariana Grande, and Nicki Minaj. It moves up to #28 from #33 this week...


This week's winner at #31 is Nicki Minaj with the aforementioned "Anaconda"...

Drake lands at #33 with "0 To 100/The Catch Up"..



British neo-house act Clean Bandit dance from #38 to #35 with "Rather Be"...


...while rapper Rae Sremmurd drops from #35 to #36 with "No Flex Zone"...


 The Game moves up a notch to #38 with "Or Nah"...
