Rock Sweep: August 23, 2014...

Round two of today's "chart sweeps" is up, with the latest songs making the radio charts in Billboard magazine, and this time out I've got the newest rock hits on the airwaves...

On the main Rock Airplay chart, The Black Keys' "Fever" drops down from #1 after 13 weeks as Vance Joy's "Riptide" takes over the top spot...

The Keys' are consoled, though, as their next single, "Gotta Get Away", was the top debut last week at #42, and this week jumps 13 notches (coincidence?) to #29...

British modern rock act Bastille follows up their #4 hit "Bad Blood" with "Flaws", which entered at #50 last week and leaps up now to #36....

This week's highest new entry belongs to Motley Crue bassist Nikki Sixx's side project Sixx:AM with "Gotta Get It Right" at #41....

Hard rock band Chevelle came in at #48 last week with "Hunter Eats Hunter" and moves up four notches to #44 this frame...

The last of this week's two entries at #49 are the Australian indie-pop band the Griswolds with "Beware The Dog"...

And now on to the rock radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel Godsmack moves up to #1 this week with "1000hp" after Seether's five weeks at the top with "Words As Weapons", while the aforementioned Sixx:AM track is the highest debut at #21 (they topped this format in 2011 with "Lies Of The Beautiful People"...

Royal Blood, a hard-rock "Noise" duo from England, follow up their #2 hit "Out Of The Black" with the song entering at #26 this week, "Figure It Out", my "Rock Pick of the Week"....

"Gotta Get Away" moves from #39 to #32 on this format this week....

Slipknot are back at #39 this week with "The Negative One". The over-the-top theatrical metal outfit has gone to the top-10 here four times, with "Snuff" reaching #2 in 2009...

Canadian rocker Redlight King sticks around at #40 for the second week with "Devil's Dance", the third single from his second album Irons In The Fire. The first two, "Born To Rise" and "Times Are Hard", both went to #10...

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, Vance Joy ascends to #1 this week (displacing Big Data's "Dangerous") with "Riptide"...

Last week's top debut was "All The Rage Back Home" from indie-rock band Interpol's upcoming fifth album El Pintor, which moves from #39 to #36 this week. Their biggest hit so far, "The Heimrich Maneuver", almost made the top tier at #11 back in 2007...

The Eeries climb from #40 to #38 with "Cool Kid"...

New York indie-rock band Bear Hands went to #8 with their first single "Giants". Now they arrive at #39 with "Agora"...

Florida-based metalcore band A Day To Remember cross over to this list at #40 with "End Of Me", which also moves up to #31 on the mainstream rock chart...

Lastly, on the Triple-A (album adult alternative, or "hipster rock") format,  there's been a shuffling of titles, as last week's new #1, Hozier's "Take Me To Church", has now been replaced by Milky Chance's "Stolen Dance"...

The aforementioned Black Keys' "Gotta Get Away" jumps from #30 to #21 this week....

British indie-rock act Scars On 45 have the top entry this week at #26 with "Crazy For You"...

Swedish newcomers First Aid Kit land their first American hit as "My Silver Lining" holds at its debut position of #28...

and bringing up the end at #29 is Nikki Lane with "Right Time"...

I'll return with the latest on R&B radio....
