Brit Sweep: August 24, 2014...

Hey mates, the end of the weekend (and sadly, my vacation) is upon us, and I'm ready to check out the songs making the top-100 of the just-released official singles chart in Britain.

The new #1 song in the UK this week comes from the biggest French DJ and dance music producer around, David Guetta, with "Lovers On The Sun" featuring vocals from Sam Martin. It's Guetta's sixth time at the top of the chart in this country, dating back to 2009's "When Love Takes Over" (still an awesome jam)...

Taylor Swift returns to the British chart at #4 with the first single from her upcoming pop-music foray 1989, "Shake It Off". She's sent six singles into the top ten here, but hasn't topped the list yet, with both "Love Story" and "I Knew You Were Trouble" stopping at the runner-up spot...

German neo-house producer Wankelmut (aka Jacob Dilßner) teams up with Australian singer Emma Louise at #5 for "My Head Is A Jungle". It's both their first time on the British chart - Jacob previously remixed Asaf Avidan's "One Day/Reckoning Song" which went to #30 here...

English boy-band Union J, who were finalists on the ninth season of the X Factor UK (the James Arthur year) land at #9 with "Tonight (We Live Forever)". It's their third top-ten hit; the group made it to #6 with their debut "Carry You" last year...

Saint Motel, an indie-pop act from Los Angeles, makes their debut at #34 with "My Type"...

(A #43 debut for a "copy-cat" version of French duo Lilly Wood & The Prick's European hit "Prayer In C" forebodes a high entry for the real McCoy when it officially comes out in this country...)

American DJ and producer Chris Malinchak is back at #45 with "Stranger" featuring singer/songwriter Mikky Ekko (the guy behind Rihanna's "Stay"). Chris went to #2 last year with "So Good To Me"...

Rapper T.I. and his "protege" Iggy Azalea drop in at #49 with "No Mediocre". He went to #1 last year as a featured artist on Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines"...

British heavy metal band Royal Blood enter the chart with two songs this week. First up at #50 with their current single "Figure It Out"...

English folk singer Ben Howard is back at #60 with "I Forget Where We Were". He previously reached #9 with "Only Love"...

The second entry on the top-100 from metalheads Royal Blood was their first single "Out Of The Black", which finally climbs into the chart at #78...

Irish singer/songwriter Hozier arrives at #79 with "Take Me To Church". The single, which is a big hit already on American rock radio, went to #2 in his home country...

The fourth track from Scottish singer Paolo Nutini's Caustic Love album, "Iron Sky", my "Brit Pick of the Week", is in at #81. The first, "Scream (Funk My Life Up)", climbed to #12...

Austrian duo Klangkarussell topped out at #3 on the British chart with "Sonnentanz (Sun Don't Shine)". They follow it up with the song at #83, "Netzwerk (Falls Like Rain)"...

Cambridge-based alternative rock band Mallory Knox debut at #85 with "Ghost In The Mirror"...

Troye Sivan, a South African-born actor and singer who is based out of Australia, comes in at #86 with "Happy Little Pill"...

The last new entry on the chart this week at #91 is from Canadian "bro-rock" masters Nickelback with "Edge Of A Revolution". It's the first single from their upcoming eighth album No Fixed Address. In their career they've reached the top ten in the UK four times so far, with "Rockstar" peaking at #2 back in 2006...

That's it for tonight...cheers!
