Pop Sweep: July 12, 2014...

It's time to kick off the first of today's "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the various singles charts in Billboard magazine. As always, I'll start on the "pop" side of things, then later in the day move on to rock, R&B, country, and dance...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming, Iggy Azalea is cementing her reign as the holder of the "song of the summer" as "Fancy" remains at #1 for a sixth week.

The highest debut of the week is the first single from internet star and "teen idol" Shawn Mendes. The Canadian is at #24 with "Life Of The Party". He hasn't even turned 16 yet. Whoa.

The first volley in Robin Thicke's "album to get wife Paula back", single "Get Her Back", enters at #82. The song is already up at #7 on the Adult R&B radio chart. Of course he has last year's "song of the summer", topping the Hot 100 for 12 weeks with "Blurred Lines"...

R&B singer Jeremih returns at #89 with "Don't Tell 'Em" featuring rapper YG. His two top-40 hits so far, "Birthday Sex" and "Down On Me", went all the way to #4...

Australian indie-rock singer/songwriter Vance Joy (aka James Keogh) debuts at #92 with his top-10 rock hit "Riptide"...

Country music newcomer Sam Hunt arrives at #98 with his first hit "Leave The Night On"...

Rapper Ca$h Out (John-Martin Gibson) has the last entry on the big chart at #100 with "She Twerkin'". It's his second time on the chart - his debut single, "Cashin' Out", went to #36 in 2012...

...and now onwards to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Ariana Grande takes over at #1 with "Problem" with Iggy Azalea (whom she disposes from the spot with her "Fancy")...

British neo-house act Clean Bandit move on to this chart at #33 with their stellar "Rather Be" featuring Jess Glynne on vocals...

Country crossover duo Florida Georgia Line have their second single make the pop radio chart as "This Is How We Roll" gets a redo adding guest Jason Derulo to Luke Bryan in the mix at #39. Their remix of "Cruise" with Nelly went to #7 on this chart last year...

The Madden Brothers from the alternative rock band Good Charlotte strike out on their own at #40 with "We Are Done", my "Pop Pick of the Week".  The song is top-10 in Australia, where Joel's mentor stint on The Voice has given them a big fan following. Back in 2002 their old band went to #6 on this chart with "Lifestyles Of The Rich and Famous"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Norwegian duo Nico & Vinz climb to the top with "Am I Wrong", while the aforementioned Florida Georgia Line mix is the top entry at #38...

Electro-pop duo Capital Cities claim the other debut at #39 with "One Minute More". It's the follow-up to their #2 hit "Safe and Sound"...

Lastly, on the adult contemporary (or "easy listening") chart,  John Legend's "All Of Me" remains at #1 for a fifth week...

The sole new song on this chart is pop/rock band OneRepublic with "Love Runs Out" at #29. It succeeds their former #1 "Counting Stars", which actually climbs back up two notches to #2 this week...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
