Pop Sweep: July 5, 2014...

It's time to kick off the first of this week's "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making their way on to the singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start with the pop side of things, and then later in the day move on to the rock, R&B, country, and dance radio charts...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming, Iggy Azalea's "Fancy" spends a fifth week at #1....

Maroon 5 claim the highest debut of the week as "Maps" rockets in at #14. It's the first single from their upcoming album V, and my "Pop Pick of the Week". So far Adam Levine and the boys have racked up three #1 hits, "Makes Me Wonder", "One More Night", and "Moves Like Jagger" with Christina Aguilera.

Australian boy-band 5 Seconds Of Summer's debut album isn't even out yet, but they land their third top-40 hit at #28 with "Kiss Me Kiss Me".  Their official single "She Looks So Perfect" is still hanging in there at #40 after peaking at #24.

The third new entry within the top-40 at #37 is British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran with "Love Afire". It's his fourth track from the set to make the Hot 100, and second after official single "Sing" (which moves back to its peak of #13) to reach the top-40..

Rapper and sometimes reality show fodder T.I. returns at #58 with "No Mediocre" featuring "it" girl Iggy Azalea. It's the first single from his upcoming Paperwork: The Motion Picture album. He's gone all the way to the top of the Hot 100 four times, last year doing the trick as a featured artist on Robin Thicke's "Blurred Lines"...

Country star Kenny Chesney previews his upcoming seventeenth studio album with the song "American Kids" at #82. Twenty-three of his singles have made the top-40; the highest so far was "Out Last Night", which peaked at #16 in 2009...

Jennifer Lopez is back at #87 with "First Love" the second single from her latest album A.K.A. The first, "I Luh Ya Papi", stalled out at #77...

...and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel,  Iggy Azalea reigns for a third week, while the aforementioned "Maps" is the top new entry at #18...

The featured artist on Iggy's hit, Charli XCX, comes in at #35 with her own "Boom Clap" from The Fault In Our Stars....

Meanwhile, over on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, Paramore stays on top for a third week with "Ain't It Fun", while "Maps" moves in at #16.

The other new entry at #38 is British neo-house duo Disclosure with "Latch" featuring Sam Smith I've been really pleasantly surprised with the success of the single, as it's closing in on the Hot 100 top-10 at #12...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") radio chart, John Legend's "All Of Me" is at #1 for a fourth week.

Canadian pop-reggae band Magic! enter at #38 with their multi-format hit "Rude". The song is a contender to replace "Fancy" at #1 on the Hot 100 as it moves up to #3...

The other debut at #30 is singer Whitney Wolanin with "Forever". This past holiday season she went to #2 with "Run Run Rudolph"...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back with the latest on rock radio...
