French Sweep: June 24, 2014...


It's time to cross the Atlantic again to check out the songs making their debut on the top-100 of the official French singles chart this week, as rapper Black M spends a second week at #1 with "Sur Ma Route"...

The top debut of the week belongs to Lebanese-born singer Mika, who now lives in Britain, with his latest single "Boum Boum Boum". The openly gay artist has been quite successful in France, scoring three #1 hits with "Relax, Take It Easy", "Love Today", and the francophone "Elle Me Dit"...

French/Comoran rapper Alonzo, formerly part of the group Psy De La Rime (not to be confused with the K-Pop star), lands his first solo top-40 hit at #24 with "La Belle Vie" ("The Good Life")....


French-Algerian rapper Lacrim moves in at #39 with "Tout le monde veut des Lovés" ("Everyone Wants To be Held"). It follows "Mon glock te mettra à genoux" ("You Will Kneel To My Glock") which went to #12 earlier this year (that's a change of heart, eh)...






British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran misses the top-40 by one notch with his "Don't", the second track from his upcoming x album to make the charts here. The first, "Sing", peaked at #11...




American hard rock band Linkin Park have their biggest hit in seven years as "Final Masquerade" arrives at #45. Back in 2005 they went to #5 with their collab with Jay-Z, "Numb/Encore"...




The winner of season three of the French version of The Voice, Kendji Girac (who was on Mika's team), appears on the chart at #57 with "Color Gitano"...




A World Cup-themed single, "Time Of Our Lives" by Moroccan singer Chawki, enters the chart at #60. Previously he made the top-10 at #7 as the featured artist on the Magic System's "Magic In the Air"...




Australian "boy-band with instruments" 5 Seconds Of Summer come in at #63 with "Don't Stop". Their debut hit "She Looks So Perfect" went to #40 in this country..




Parisian alt-pop duo Lilly Wood & The Prick enter at #65 with the Robin Schulz remix of "Prayer In C", my "French Pick of the Week". It's so far their highest on the singles chart. Schulz also did magic with Dutch artist Mr. Probz international smash "Waves"...




Nicki Minaj is back at #85 with "Pill & Potions". She's had one lead-artist top-10 in France - "Starships" in 2012 which made it to #5...




Las Vegas rockers Imagine Dragons are in at #89 with "On Top Of The World". It follows their biggest hit here to date, "Demons", which peaked at #15...




New Zealand-born singer/songwriter Lorde's cover of Tears For Fears' 1985 hit "Everybody Wants To Rule The World" for the movie Divergent enters this chart at #93. The original went to #18 in France...




The seventh track from Belgian singer-songwriter Stromae's Racine Carree' album, "Ave Cesaria", lands at #97. Three of them, "Papaoutai", "Tous Les Memes", and "Formidable", went all the way to #1...




The last debut of the week at #100 is British singer Sam Smith with his sublime "Stay With Me". It follows "Money On My Mind", which peaked at #31...
