8 of the 80s: 6/12/14 (1986)...

Moving ahead to this week's 80's throwback Thursday, I've got eight more nuggets from 1986, the year college basketball player Len Bias dies from an overdose of cocaine right after being drafted by the Celtics.

The Commodores - "Goin' To The Bank"
from the album United (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #65
Songwriters: Franne Golde, Andy Goldmark, Dennis Lambert

The act's last top-10 R&B hit almost made it to the top of that chart, stopping at #2.

Diana Ross - "Chain Reaction (Special New Mix)"
from the album Eaten Alive (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #66
Songwriters: Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb

The song that had the Bee Gees transform the diva back to her Supreme roots got a second life and second chart run with a new mix in 1986...

Jermaine Jackson - "Do You Remember Me?"
from the album Precious Moments (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #71
Songwriters: Jermaine Jackson, Michael Omartian, Bruce Sudano

Jermaine co-wrote this with Donna Summer's husband Sudano and soft-soul producer Omartian.

Dionne Warwick - "Whisper In The Dark"
from the album Friends (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #72
Songwriters: Edgar Bronfman, Bruce Roberts

Shockingly Dionne's follow-up to her mega-smash "That's What Friends Are For" didn't even make it to the top half of the pop chart.

Klymaxx - "The Men All Pause"
from the album Meeting In The Ladies Room (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #80
Songwriters: Bernadette Cooper, Joyce Irby

The first single from the act's 1984 album got a second lease on life after the success of their ballad "I Miss You"...

Pointer Sisters - "Twist My Arm"
from the album Contact (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #83
Songwriters: Andy Goldmark, Bruce Roberts

Pointer Sisters - Twist My Arm by jpdc11

The sisters rock it out on this totally silly record.

Stevie Wonder - "Land Of La La"
from the album In Square Circle (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #86
Songwriter: Stevie Wonder

As much as the banality of Wonder's "Part Time Lover" brought to the table, his In Square Circle had some respectable jams, like this dis of the City Of Angels.

Maurice White - "I Need You"
from the album Maurice White (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #95
Songwriters: Priscilla Coolidge, William Daniel Smith, Mary Unobsky

The leader of Earth Wind And Fire had a decent chart showing on the adult contemporary and R&B chart with this by-the-numbers ballad.
