Pop Sweep: May 31, 2014...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", sampling the songs making their debut on the various singles charts in Billboard magazine. As always, I'll start with the pop side of things, then later on move on to rock, R&B, country, and dance music...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combines tallies of radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming, John legend holds tight at #1 for a third week with "All Of Me"...

The top debut of the week comes from the Australian "boy-band" 5 Seconds of Summer, with their second hit single in the US, "Don't Stop", at #47. Their first, "She Looks So Perfect", moves up to a new high of #32 this week...

While British singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran's "Sing" spends its sixth week in the top-20 - it's entire chart run so far - his next track from his upcoming sophomore album, x, is "One", and the song enters at #87, and is my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Dierks Bentley takes his country hit "Drunk On A Plane" to the big chart at #91. It follows "I Hold On", which made it to #40 earlier this year. This has the potential to have some major "Red Solo Cup"-style crossover buzz...

Rapper Kid Ink follows up his top-20 hit "Show Me" with another track featuring Chris Brown, "Main Chick" at #92...

The fourth single from the Band Perry's second album Pioneer, "Chainsaw", buzzes in at #94. The first, "Better Dig Two", went to #28 last year...

The Voice just finished its sixth season this past Tuesday, but since the sales period for the chart is from the week before, the semifinals are what would come on today's chart, and only one sold enough to make the Hot 100. It's from runner-up Jake Worthington from Blake Shelton's team with his cover of Bryan Adams' "Heaven". The original went to #1 thirty years ago (!)...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel,  "All Of Me" rules for a fifth week...

The British singer with a soulful, angelic voice, Sam Smith, claims the high debut with a former "pop pick", "Stay With Me", at #29...

Jason Derulo's fourth single from his Talk Dirty album, "Wiggle" featuring rapper Snoop Dogg, shimmies in at #32...

OneRepublic follows up their #1 pop radio hit "Counting Stars" with "Love Runs Out" at #36...

Brotherly newcomers AJR from New York enter at #37 with their first hit "I'm Ready"...

And sneaking in at #40 is Chris Brown with his R&B hit "Loyal" with rappers Lil Wayne, Too Short, Tyga, and French Montana, depending on which version you get. Brown last made this chart in 2012 when "Don't Wake Me Up" went to #6....

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 pop format, John Legend reigns for a third week..

South African rockers KONGOS cross over at #38 with their #1 rock hit "Come With Me Now"...

One Direction follow up their #1 hit on this chart, "Story of My Life", with "You & I" at #39...

The final debut on this chart at #40 is the Hot 100 #3 hit "Problem" by Ariana Grande with Iggy Azalea...

Finally, on the Adult Contemporary, or "easy listening" radio chart, Pharrell's "Happy" still is on top for a fifth week...

British boy-band Rixton lands at #27 with "Me And My Broken Heart". The record already has reached the top-15 on both the Hot 100 and the Adult Top-40 lists, and top-10 on the Mainstream chart...

The other debut at #30 is Paramore with the pop/rock hit "Ain't It Fun"...

I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest in rock radio....
