Pop Sweep: May 24, 2014...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the song making the charts in Billboard magazine this week. As always, I'll start on the pop side of things, and them move to rock, R&B, country, and dance music later in the day...

On the "big chart", Billboard's Hot 100, John Legend spends a second week at #1 with "All Of Me"...

As opposed to last week, when three songs made their debut in the top-40, the highest entry this time out doesn't come until #70. It's the latest from R&B singer and The Voice judge Usher, with "Good Kisser". It's the first single from his upcoming eighth album. It seems like he relying on that body-ody-ody. So far he's racked up an impressive nine #1 hits, though his last, "OMG", came four years ago. He's got the pipes, but does this song hold up to repeated listens?

Next up at #71 is a contestant on Usher's "team" on The Voice, Josh Kaufman, with the second track of his to make the Hot 100 so far, with his cover of Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me". Two weeks ago he came in at #92 with his take on Sam Smith's "Stay With Me". Bonnie's original went to #18 back in 1991...

Australian singer/songwriter Sia returns at #75 with "Chandelier". This is her first time in the Hot 100 as a solo lead artist; previously she made the top-10 here as a featured credit on "Titanium" by David Guetta and "Wild Ones" by Flo Rida...

Another Voice contestant, Christina Grimmie from southern New Jersey, lands her second Hot 100 placement in as many weeks with her rendition of Lil' Wayne's "How To Love" at #79. Last week she took Drake's "Hold On We're Going Home" to #74. Lil' Wayne's original peaked at #5 in 2011. You know, as much as it's kind of refreshing to have a different angle when you're doing these songs, this one in particular isn't really a substantial one to begin with.

Personal fave Sara Bareilles is back at #81 with "I Choose You". Her last single, the long-lasting now-commercial-fodder "Brave" peaked at #23 earlier this year. This record is already up at #18 on the Adult Top-40 chart...

Pharrell Williams still it up at #2 with "Happy", and while his "Marilyn Monroe" was supposed to be his second promoted single, it hasn't made the big chart yet, while album track and presumed third single "Come At Me Bae" moves in at #82. It's being used in the current Red Bull commercial, and includes uncredited vocals from Miley Cyrus...

Country singer Brad Paisley enters at #88 with "River Bank", the first single from his upcoming tenth studio album Moonshine In The Trunk. He's had quite a bit of success on the "big" chart, racking up 17 top-40 hits, with "Remind Me" with Carrie Underwood going as high as #17 in 2011...

Model and singer Tinashe, from Kentucky, debuts at #89 with her first hit "2 On", which is already in the top-40 on the R&B chart. It features rapper Schoolboy Q...

The third track from country-rock hunk Brantley Gilbert's new album Just As I Am, "17 Again", is the last entry on the Hot 100 at #90. Current radio single "Bottoms Up" went to #20 a few weeks back. So far there's no audio on this one (boo!)..

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, "All Of Me" hangs out on top for a fourth week...

The top entry at #38 is dance-pop act My Crazy Girlfriend with "Crazy Stupid Love". The quartet features fraternal twins Justyn and Bennett Armstrong...

New Zealand native Lorde follows up her #14 hit "Team" with "Tennis Court" at #39....

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, John Legend spends a second week at #1...

California-based female rock band HAIM score their first hit on this format at #39 with "Forever". my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Another act from the state, pop singer/songwriter Andy Grammer, returns at #40 with "Back Home".  He previously went to #5 with "Keep Your Head Up"...

Finally, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy-listening") chart, Pharrell Williams' "Happy" in on top for a fourth week...

The sole debut here at #27 is Mexican singer Margo Rey with "Colours". She previously has made it to #17 with "Let The Rain"...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey....I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
