Pop Sweep: May 17, 2014...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps", checking out the songs making the various singles and radio charts in Billboard magazine. As always, I'll start off with the pop charts, then later on move to rock, R&B, country, and dance radio...

On the "big chart", Billboard's Hot 100, which combines totals of radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming, after 10 week Pharrell is disposed by John Legend's "All Of Me" at #1...

There are three singles making their debut in the top-40 this week, and the top entry all the way at #3 is from former Nickelodeon star and singer Ariana Grande with "Problems" featuring Australian rapper Iggy Azalea (who also moved up to #4 with her own "Fancy"). It's Grande's second top-10 single after "The Way" went to #9 last year, and by far with over 400K sold the top-selling single of the week, and it's my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

The late Michael Jackson's Thriller-era demo "Love Never Felt So Good", co-written with 60s teen idol Paul Anka, and featuring Justin Timberlake, leaps on the chart at #20. The last time Jackson was in the top-20 was in 2001 with "Butterflies"...

The third big winner at #25 is modern rock giants Coldplay with the third track from their upcoming Ghost Stories to reach the chart, "A Sky Full Of Stars". The first, "Magic", came in earlier at #24...

As Jason Derulo's "Talk Dirty" hangs on in the top-10 at #6, his next single, "Wiggle" featuring rapper Snoop Dogg, enters at #68. It's the fourth from his Talk Dirty album....

For the second week, a contestant on The Voice makes an appearance on the Hot 100, and this week it's Christina Grimmie with her version of Drake's "Hold On, We're Going Home" at #74. The original went to #4 this past winter. Grimmie hails from Marlton, New Jersey, and she's on Adam Levine's "team"...

Enrique Iglesias returns at #81 with "Bailando" featuring Descemer Bueno and Gente De Zona. It's the sixth single from his Sex and Love album, and third of those in Spanish - "Loco" went one notch higher at #80 last year...

Brantley Gilbert comes in at #87 with the second track from his upcoming third album Just As I Am, "My Baby's Guns N' Roses". The first, "Bottoms Up", has made it as high as #20 on this chart...

As Australian rapper Iggy Azalea's The New Classic debuts this week at #2 on the album charts, a track from the record, "Work", arrives at #88.  Last year this song went to #5 on the American dance chart, and #17 on the singles chart in England..

As Blake Shelton continues his stint as a judge/team leader on The Voice, the fifth single from his latest album, "My Eyes", enters at #97. It features former Voice contestant Gwen Sebastian. The previous four singles all made the top-40 on the Hot 100, with "Boys 'Round Here" reaching #12 last year...

Another country singer, Craig Campbell, snuggles in at #99 with "Keep Them Kisses Comin'". It's the follow-up to "Outta My Head", which peaked a little higher at #90...

The final debut on the big chart at #100 is from British newcomer Katy Tiz, with her first charting hit "The Big Bang". It's a remake of a single from the Rock Mafia that went to #98 in 2010...

And now on to the pop radio format charts....

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, John Legend rules for a third week, while the aforementioned "Problems" by Ariana Grande is the top debut at #28...

One Direction return at #34 with "You & I"...

Dutch DJ and producer Afrojack dances in at #40 with "Ten Feet Tall" featuring American singer Wrabel...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, John Legend's "All Of Me" climbs into the top spot...

Last week's "Pop Pick of the Week", Australian pop/reggae band Magic!'s "Rude", swings in at #36...

The previously featured Michael Jackson/Justin Timberlake duet "Love Never Felt So Good" moves in at #40...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy listening") chart, Pharrell Williams' "Happy" rules for a third week, while Jackson's "Love Never Felt..." is the high debut at #23...

Ed Sheeran enters at #30 with "Sing". He almost got his debut "The A Team" into the top-10 here at #11...

That's all for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
