Brit Sweep: May 4, 2014...

The weekend is over, and time to check out the songs making their way on to the just-released official sales chart in Britain this week....

The top-selling song of the week and my "Brit Pick of the Week" belongs to Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris, who enters at the top with "Summer". It's his fourth #1 hit as a lead artist, and sixth overall. He first went to the top in 2008 as a featured artist on Dizzee Rascal's "Dance Wit Me"....

Arriving at #27 is the brand new previously unreleased track by Michael Jackson, "Love Never Felt So Good". Written by Jackson with former 60s teen idol Paul Anka, the song was originally recorded in 1983, before being given to Johnny Mathis to record. Michael's last time in the top-40 with a non-reentry was "Hold My Hand", which came in at #10. There's also a version with Justin Timberlake, but I really like just Jackson solo...

Singer/songwriter Molly (Smitten-Downes) has been chosen to represent England in this year's Eurovision Song Contest, and her entry "Children Of The Universe" arrives at #48. Considering last year's song, "Believe In Me" by established Welsh singer Bonnie Tyler only made it to #93, this is a pretty good start. Molly did have a part in a previous UK though, as part of the dance act Stunt, who climbed to #9 in 2008 with "Raindrops (Encore Une Fois)"...

British indie-rock band Kasabian return at #52 with "Explodes", from their upcoming fifth album 48:13. They have reached the top-10 here four times before, with "Fire" topping off at #3 in 2009...

Dutch electrohouse musician Hardwell follows up his first top-40 UK hit "Dare You" with the song at #59, "Everybody Is In The Place"....

Katy Perry's fifth track from her Prism album to make the top-100, "Birthday", jumps in at #62. The first, "Roar", topped the chart here last year...

Britpop king and leader of such acts as Blur and Gorillaz, Damon Albarn, just released his first solo album, and while the album comes in at #2 on that chart, a track from it, "Heavy Seas Of Love", swims in at #70.

The sixth single from Jason Derulo's latest album, Tattoos, "Wiggle" with Snoop Dogg, enters at #73. He went to #1 in the UK with "Talk Dirty"...

I'm totally psyched to be seeing Swedish singer Robyn and Norwegian electronica duo Royksopp this August (thanks Troy and George!), and their collaboration, "Do It Again", drops in at #75. Robyn has been in the top-40 here nine times, previously topping the chart in the UK in 2007 with "With Every Heartbeat", while Royksopp has been in the UK top-40 five times, with "Eple" going to #16 in 2001...

American rapper Kid Ink lands his third charting single in this country as "The Money And The Power" comes in at #81. His first, "Show Me", peaked at #23 here...

The final song making its debut in the top-100 is an oldie, with DJ Khaled's 2010 single "All I Do Is Win" at #98. Previously he went to #78 with "I'm On One"...
