German Sweep: April 29, 2014...


It's time to head over the border to Germany to check out the songs making their debut on the official singles chart, as Clean Bandit steals a third week at #1 with "Rather Be"...

The top entry on the chart at #24 I guess is a local thing. hip-hop acts Eko Fresh, Frauenarzt, Manny Marc, and Bass Sultan Hengzt come together for "Joko Diss", which apparently is a "diss" track mocking a Germany television personality. Alright then...

Rea Garvey, the Irish-born former lead singer for the German rock band Reamonn, returns at #32 with "Can't Say No". As a solo artist, this is his ninth time in the top-40; he topped the chart in Germany as a featured artist on Nelly Furtado's "All Good Things (Must Come To An End)" in 2006...


German DJ and producer Alle Farben lands at #70 with "She Moves (Far Away)" with Graham, my "German Pick of the Week"...


British blue-eyed soul singer John Newman comes in at #82 with "Losing Sleep". His "Love Me Again" went to #6 in this country...


The final debut of the week belongs to Dutch stage singer Willemijn Verkaik with "Lass Jetzt Los", the German version of "Let It Go" from Frozen, where she provides the translated voice of Elsa..
