Brit Sweep: April 27, 2014...






Hey gang, the weekend is almost over, and it's time to check out the just-released official sales chart in Britain this week to sample the songs making their debut...

The new top-selling single of the week comes from Dutchman Dennis Princeman Stehf, who records under the name Mr. Probz. His single "Waves" was released last year, where it became a top-10 hit in Belgium and his native Holland. Then after German DJ Robin Schulz remixed the track, the single caught fire all over Europe, topping the charts in Germany, Austra, Switzerland, Norway, and Sweden. Now it makes its way to Britain debuting at #1...

Another dance act, American remixing/recording group Cash Cash from northern New Jersey, shuffle in at #5 with "Take Me Home". The single is also a top-ten hit in Australia, and features vocals from Bebe Rexha...


New Yorker DJ Cassidy dances in at #6 with the ultra-awesome "Calling All Hearts" featuring Robin Thicke and Jessie J. I'm still hoping this disco lusciousness makes its way to the States and becomes the "Get Lucky" of this year. The track also features members of Earth Wind & Fire and Chic guitarist/leader Nile Rodgers...


British "girl-group" Neon Jungle follow up their first top-ten single "Braveheart" with "Welcome To The Jungle" at #7...


Indiana, a singer from the town of Nottingham, scores her first hit with "Solo Dancing" at #14...


Another artist enjoyed his first charting single is Londoner Joel Compass at #34 with "Forgive Me"...


While alt-pop singer Lana Del Rey's new song "West Coast" hasn't been released in the UK as yet, her track "Gods And Monsters" from her EP Paradise shoots in at #39, becoming her seventh top-40 hit in this country. The Cedric Gervais remix of her "Summertime Sadness" went to #4 here last year...


The "Britpop" rock band The Kooks return at #40 with "Down", the first single from their fourth album Listen. They've had three top-ten hits in the UK, with "Always Where I Need To Be" reaching #3 in 2008...


The second single from Paloma Faith's A Perfect Contradiction album, "Only Love Can Hurt Like This", is my "Brit Pick of the Week", and comes in at the halfway mark at #50. The first (also a former 'pick') , "Can't Rely On You", made it to #10...


Model and rapper Dominique Young Unique from Tampa, Florida, who appeared on DJ Fresh's top-5 hit "Earthquake", has her first lead-artist hit with "Throw It Down" at #59...


British hard rock band Royal Blood have two songs debut as  "Come On Over"comes in at #68 , immediate becoming their biggest hit...


...while "Little Monster" jumps in at #74...


Bruce Springsteen's contribution to Record Store Day 2014, "American Beauty", drops in at #83...


Coldplay's first single from their upcoming Ghost Stories album, "Magic", went to #10. Now they enter at #89 with "Midnight"...


As Australian rapper Iggy Azalea's debut album The New Classic debuts on the albums chart at #5, another track from the set, "Black Widow" featuring singer Rita Ora, comes in at #91. It's the fifth from the record to make the top 100; "Fancy" peaked at #5 a few weeks back...


The final entry on the top 100 this week is from Pharrell Williams, with "Marilyn Monroe" at #94...
