Brit Sweep: March 9, 2014...

Hey gang, the weekend is finally over, and it's time to check out the songs making their debut on the just-released official sales chart in Britain this week...

The top-selling song of the week is the first chart single for London producer Rowan Jones, who under the moniker of Route 94 is in with "My Love", my "Brit Pick of the Week".  Deftly named for the American interstate that connects Chicago and Detroit, this meld of neo-house music with EDM techno-rave has been quite the clubfiller in the UK recently. Vocalist Jess Glynne just appeared on the 4-week #1 "Rather Be" by Clean Bandit (which still is at a respectable #3 in its seventh week)...

Lily Allen's third album, Sheezus, is due at the end of May, but already three of its songs have made the top-10 in the UK. First, "Somewhere Only We Know" went to #1, then "Hard Out Here" dropped in at #9. Now her "Air Balloon" rises to #7 on the sales chart this week...

Another act with a record due in May, modern rock group Coldplay, arrive at #10 with the first single from the set, "Magic". It's their fourteenth song to make the top-10 here; both "Paradise" in 2011 and "Viva La Vida" in 2008 went all the way to #1...

British folk-rock singer/songwriter Nick Mulvey scores hit first solo hit with "Cucurucu" at #26. He was previously a member of the Portico Quartet...

New York remixing duo The Chainsmokers import their viral video hit "#SELFIE" to the chart here at #42. This so reminds me of Frank Zappa's "Valley Girl"...

Auto-tune hip-hop king T-Pain returns at #50 with "Up Down (Do This All Day)". As a lead artist, he went top-10 once so far here with "5 O'Clock" in 2011..

The Arctic Monkeys are also back at #76 with the fifth single from their excellent AM album, "Arabella".  They went to #8 with the third, "Why Do You Only Call Me When You're High?"...

Jamaican reggae artist Stylo G enters at #81 with "Move Back". Last year he made it to #18 with "Soundbwoy". This new one is quite the party jam...

American hard rock band Pretty Reckless, with actress Taylor Momsen as their lead singer, roar in at #95 with "Heaven Knows". They have had two top-40 hits in the UK so far, with "Make Me Wanna Die" reaching #16 in 2010...

The final entry of the week at #97 is the fourth single from drum-and-bass stars Chase & Status' album Brand New Machine, "Blk & Blu". The second, "Count On Me", made the top-5 last year...

Thanks for stopping by...tomorrow I'll have another Song of the Day, part two of this week's new album recap, and the "robbed hit" of the week. Later tonight, I'll have my belated "Aussie" recap. Cheers!
