Brit Sweep: March 2, 2014...


Hey kiddies, as I'm about to hunker down for the impending snowstorm, I'm ready to trot out the new songs reaching the just-released official sales chart in Britain this week, as Pharrell moves back to #1 for his third go and fourth non-consecutive week with "Happy". It's the first time since Guy Mitchell's "Singing The Blues" back in 1957 that a single went to #1 three times...

The top entry of the week at #6 belongs to veteran Dutch trance music artist and producer Tiesto, with "Red Lights". It's his first to reach the top-ten; previously his best came in 2011 with "C'mon (Catch 'em By Surprise)" made it to #13...

British newcomer Foxes (aka Louise Rose Allen) also scores her first top-ten hit as her second solo track, "Let Go For Tonight", drops in at #7. It follows up "Youth", which came in at #12 last September...


The third entry in the top-10 this week, and my "Brit Pick of the Week", is from singer Paloma Faith with "Can't Rely On You", the first single from her upcoming third album A Perfect Contradiction. In 2012 Faith reached #7 with "Picking Up The Pieces"...



 London-based drum-and-bass musician and producer Wilkinson follows up his top-10 hit "Afterglow" with "Too Close" at #56...


Producer Julio Bashmore steps out on his own for the second time at #57 with "Peppermint". Two years ago he landed at #55 with "Au Seve". It features singer Jessie Ware, whom he has produced...


The fourth single from Swedish dance king Avicii's earthy True album, "Addicted To You", arrives at #64. The previous three all went to the top-5 in this country, with "Wake Me Up!" reaching #1 last year...


Bruno Mars comes in at #83 with the fifth single from his Unorthodox Jukebox album, "Young Girls". The first two, "Locked Out Of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man", both peaked in the runner-up spot...


Beyonce's "Partition" enters the UK chart at #90. It's the fifth track from her self-titled album to reach the top- 100 in this country - "Drunk In Love" so far has done the best reaching #9...


British modern rock act the 1975 with the fifth single from their self-titled debut, "Settle Down". They went to #19 with "Chocolate" (their current American single)...


The final entry of the week is from rock singer/musician Jake Bugg, with the third single from his top-10 sophomore album Shangri-La, "A Song About Love" at #95. Last year the first, "What Doesn't Kill You", topped out at #44...
