Brit Sweep: March 16, 2014...


The end of the weekend is here, and it's time to check out the just-released official sales chart in Britain to sample the songs making their debut.

The biggest-selling song of the week is the collaboration of Canadian electro duo DVBBS with Miami DJ Borgeous with the rap vocal remix of their track Tsunami now subtitled "Jump" featuring British rapper Tinie Tempah. The original version went top-10 in France and on the American dance chart...

Landing at #4 is Enrique Iglesias with his latest, "I'm A Freak" featuring rapper Pitbull. It's from his upcoming album Sex And Love. It's his tenth top-10 hit in the UK; he topped the chart back in 2001 with "Hero"...


American pop/rap star Flo Rida returns at #8 with "How I Feel". It's his eighth top-10 hit as a lead artist - he has gone to #1 with "Right Round", "Club Can't Handle Me", and "Good Feeling", along with two featured artist-credit #1's with Alexandra Burke and Olly Murs...


The fourth entry in the top ten at #9 is from British singer Pixie Lott, with "Nasty", the first single from her upcoming self-titled third album. It's her seventh time in this level - she has been to #1 three times with her first two singles "Mama Do" and "Boys and Girls" along with "All About Tonight" from her second record...


I'm kind of shocked that Kylie Minogue's A-list gig being a mentor on this season of The Voice in the UK didn't translate to at least a top-10 entry for her latest single and my "Brit Pick of the Week" "Into The Blue". The song is top-10 in airplay - perhaps the folks are waiting to buy the entire album, which comes out tomorrow in Britain? It almost made the grade coming in at #12...


 American singer/songwriter Christina Perri enters at #14 with her third top-40 hit in this country, "Human". Her first, "Jar Of Hearts", made it to #4 in 2010...


Singer/actress/star of Glee Lea Michele arrives at #56 with her debut solo single, "Cannonball"....


Singer/songwriter Lauren Aquilina, from the western city of Bristol, comes in at #58 with her third charting single, "Lovers Or Liars"...


Swedish indie-pop singer/songwriter Tove Lo debuts at #59 with "Stay High" featuring Hippie Sabotage...


American alternative rock band The Neighbourhood take the huge rock hit "Sweater Weather" to these shores at #66...


Garage house/grime artist Redlight arrives at #81 with "36" featuring Lotti. The DJ from Bristol's last single, "Lost In Your Love", shot to #5 in 2012...



Chloe Howl, a synthpop musician from England, was nominated for the BBC's Sound Of 2014 poll, and her first single to make the top 100, "Rumour", is in at #84...


The fourth track from Lily Allen's upcoming Sheezus album, "Our Time", enters at #86. The other three went top-10, with her cover of "Somewhere Only We Know" topping the chart last December...


American rapper Angel Haze scores her first chart hit at #90 with "Battle Cry" featuring singer/songwriter Sia. Angel had received much critical acclaim for her personal interpretation of Eminem's "Cleaning Out My Closet" detailing her history of sexual abuse...


California sister rockers Haim move in at #97 with "If I Could Change Your Mind", the fifth single from their excellent debut Days Are Gone. It follows "The Wire", which went to #16...


The final debut of the week belongs to American country artist Brad Paisley, who comes in at #100 with "The Mona Lisa"...
