Rock Sweep: February 8, 2014...

Round two of today's "chart sweeps" is up, with the newest rock songs on the radio charts in Billboard magazine.

On the main Rock Airplay chart, Cage The Elephant stand firm at #1 with "Come A Little Closer" for a twelfth week...

Newcomers Kongos claim the top debut at #26 with "Come With Me Now", my "Rock Pick of the Week".  The South African alt-rock band who now call Phoenix their home have been opening for Linkin Park on tour...

 British modern rock act Bastille follow up their #1 hit "Pompeii" with "Bad Blood" at #47. It also moves up to #30 on the Modern Rock list...



Neo-metal veterans Korn return at #49 with "Spike In My Veins". The song, which just made the top-20 on Mainstream Rock, is their second single from their Paradigm Shift album. The first, "Never Never", made it up to #13...


And now on to the rock format sub-charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Avenged Sevenfold spend a second week on top with "Shepherd Of Fire"...

British hard rock band Heaven's Basement jump in at #38 with "Nothing Left To Lose". It's their second hit after the top-20 "Fire, Fire"...


Danish metalheads Volbeat arrive at #39 with "Dead But Rising", the third single from their Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies set. Their last three singles have gone to #1 on this format...


J. Roddy Walston and the Business take the last spot at #40 with "Heavy Bells". The record is already up at #14 on the Alternative chart...


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the Arctic Monkeys are on top for week two with "Do I Wanna Know?", while the aforementioned Kongos have the only debut at #32...

Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Lorde has her second #1 hit with "Team"...

Foster The People leap in at #17 with "Coming Of Age", which also moves up to #9 on the Alternative list...
