Rock Sweep: February 22, 2014...


Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, with the latest songs on rock radio appearing on the charts in Billboard magazine...

On the main Rock Airplay chart,  Lorde reigns for a second week at #1 with "Team"...

The big debut of the week at #44 is hard rock band Chevelle with "Take Out The Gunman". The Illinois-based act has gone top-10 four times so far, with "Jars" almost reaching the top at #2 in 2009...

 Danish heavy metal group Volbeat enters at #49 with "Dead But Rising", the third single from their Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies album. The other two, "Hangman's Bodycount" and "Lola Montez", both reached the top-20 here. This new one also leaps to #16 on the Mainstream Rock chart in only its third week...



And now on to the rock radio format sub-charts.....

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Avenged Sevenfold burn a fourth week on top with "Shepherd Of Fire", while the aforementioned Chevelle track is the high debut at #25...

Jumping in at #27 is U2 with their (RED) charity record "Invisible". The single was offered as a free download during the 24 hours after the Super Bowl. The iconic alt-rock band has gone to #1 seven times on this chart, the latest being "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" in 1995...



Michigan's Pop Evil are back at #31 with "Torn To Pieces", the third single from their Onyx album. It follows two #1 hits, "Trenches" and "Deal With The Devil"...


Guitarist Zakk Wylde's heavy metal outfit Black Label Society drop in at #39 with "My Dying Time". It's the first single from the upcoming Catacombs Of The Black Vatican. So far, their first hit "Stillborn" with Ozzy Osbourne has been their highest, peaking at #12 ten years ago...


Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, Arctic Monkeys hang for a fourth week with "Do I Wanna Know?", while U2's "Invisible" rockets in at #28...

Newcomer Sir Sly, a trio from L.A., debuts at #37 with "Gold", my "Rock Pick of the Week"...


Boston synth-rock newbies Magic Man come in at #39 with "Paris"...


The last entry at #40 is from Bowling Green's Sleeper Agent with "Waves"...


Lastly, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Lorde's "Team" is at #1 for a third week, while U2 enters at #13 with "Invisible".

Making this chart at #30 is A Great Big World with Christina Aguilera and their top-10 pop hit "Say Something"...
