French Sweep: February 11, 2014...


It's time to cross the Atlantic again to check out the songs making their debut on the top 100 of the official sales chart in France this week, as Pharrell Williams is spending a ninth non-consecutive week at #1 with "Happy"...

The top entry of the week doesn't show up until right under the top 40 at #41 as Kaaris, a Parisian rapper whose roots are from the western African nation of the Ivory Coast, is in with "Sombre" ("Dark").  It's so far the highest he's gotten as yet on the chart in five tries...

Singer and actress Lea Michele, from the American television franchise Glee, arrives at #55 with "What Is Love?". It follows "Louder" which made it to #46...


Kylie Minogue ascends to #70 with her brand new single, "Into The Blue". She has reached the top ten in this country ten times, going to #1 in 2001 with "Can't Get You Out Of My Head"...


Canadian singer/songwriter Coeur De Pirate (aka Beatrice Martin) returns at #73 with her cover of the Amy Winehouse classic "You Know I'm No Good" she recorded for the TV show Trauma. In 2010 she topped the chart in this country with "Pour Un Infidele" with Julien Dore. It wins my "French Pick of the Week"...


Meanwhile, another Canadian, singer and rapper K-Os, enters at #75 with "Man I Used To Be". The single went to #12 in his home country in 2005..


Cuban-American musician Cris Cab debuts at #80 with "Liar Liar" featuring Pharrell Williams...


Imagine Dragons finally make the chart here at #87 with the American top-ten pop hit "Demons". Previously they made it to #30 with "Radioactive"...


Ella Fitzgerald's "Midnight Sun" from 1957 makes a belated chart appearance at #88...


The last entry of the week at #100 is from rap/R&B duo the Shin Sekai with "Rêver" ("Dreaming")...
