Brit Sweep: February 9, 2014...

Well, the weekend is almost at an end, and it's time to look east to check out the songs making their first appearance on the official top 100 singles chart in Britain this week, as Clean Bandit spends a third week at #1 with "Rather Be"...

The top entry at #3, and only song debuting in the top-40, is the latest from DJ Fresh, the drum and bass producer from the southern town of Worthing, with "Dibby Dibby Sound" with Jay Fay from St. Louis and British rapper Ms. Dynamite. It's his fifth top-10 single; he went to #1 twice with both "Louder" and "Right Now". As for Ms. Dynamite, it's her fourth top-10 credit and the highest her name has been on the chart...

 Scottish Celtic-rock group the Red Hot Chili Pipers (see what they did there?) debut at #54 with their bagpiper-ific cover of Avicii's "Wake Me Up!"....

U2 is back at #65 with their (RED) charity benefit record "Invisible". The Irish modern rock giants have topped the British charts seven times, but with singles you wouldn't have guessed, like "The Fly", "Discotheque", and "Desire"...

John Legend comes in at #72 with "All Of Me". In 2004 he took his "Ordinary People" to #4 in this country...

London indie-rockers Bombay Bicycle Club ride in at #78 with "Luna", my "Brit Pick of the Week", and the first single from the #1 album in the UK this week, So Long See You Tomorrow.  It's their sixth to make the top 100; in 2010 they made it to #56 with "Ivy & Gold"...

Lana Del Rey is in at #84 with "Once Upon A Dream", from the upcoming Sleeping Beauty "prequel" Maleficent starring Angelina Jolie. It's a cover of the original from the 1959 Disney classic. Lana has had three top-ten singles in the UK, with "Summertime Sadness" her best going to #4 last year..

Prince and his new side-act 3rdeyegirl drop in at #90 with "Pretzelbodylogic". In his long career the Purple One has only went to #1 in this country once, with "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" in 1994...

The final entry on the chart this week at #92 is "Real And True" from American rapper Future with Miley Cyrus and British singer Mr. Hudson.
