Brit Sweep: February 23, 2014...

The weekend's almost at a close, and time to check out the songs making their first appearance on the just-released British official singles chart this week...

The top-selling song of the week belongs to singer and Brit Award winner Sam Smith with his first top-40 lead-artist hit and one of his two entries in the top 100 this week, "Money On My Mind". He previously was at #1 as a featured artist on Naughty Boy's single "La La La" last year...

New Yorker indie-pop duo A Great Big World team up with Christina Aguilera at #4 with their American top-10 hit "Say Something"...

Speaking of the BRITs, two of the performances from the night enter the chart - first at #21 is the mashup of Bastille and Rudimental with "Pompeii/Waiting All Night". The former song peaked at #2 while the latter topped the chart last year...

British boy-band M.A.D. claim their second top-40 hit in the UK with "Fame & TV" at #32. Since their last they've already replaced a member (the "A" now being Ben "AB" Pryer)...

The second Sam Smith track to make it into the top 100 this week is "Lay Me Down" at #46...

American modern rock band My Chemical Romance, who are about to call it a day, enter at #63 with "Fake Your Death". During their career they've racked up eight top-40 hits in the UK, with "Welcome To The Black Parade" going all the way to #1 in 2006...

The other collaboration from the BRIT Awards to make the chart is "Royals/White Noise" from Lorde and Disclosure with AlunaGeorge at #72. Lorde made it to #1 on the UK chart, while the amazing "White Noise" came in at #2...

Rudimental has the last debut of the week with the sixth single from their excellent Home album, "Powerless" featuring Becky Hill, who was a finalist on the British version of The Voice. It's my "Brit Pick of the Week"...

That's it for tonight...I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, part two of this week's "album sweep", and my "robbed hit" of the week. Cheers!
