Songoftheday 1/9/14 - She said sorry baby I'm leaving you tonight, I found someone new he's waiting in the car outside...

Cyndi Lauper - "Money Changes Everything"
from the album She's So Unusual (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #27 (one week)
Weeks in the Top-40: 6

Today's Song of the Day is by the quirky singer Cyndi Lauper, whose debut album She's So Unusual had already spun off four top-10 hits with "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", "She Bop", "All Through The Night", and the #1 single "Time After Time". At the close of 1984 she released a fifth single, which was a cover of a record from the Atlanta rock group the Brains from 1978...

Lauper's version upped the synths (provided by the guys in the Philly-area band the Hooters) and released the 7" single as a live version...

"Money Changes Everything" became Cyndi's fifth top-40 hit off the album in February of 1985, while also going to #37 on the rock radio chart in Billboard. The record also made the top-20 in both Australia and New Zealand and top-40 in Canada.

In 2005 Cyndi reprised the song for her Body Acoustic album with Adam Lazzarra of rock band Taking Back Sunday making a cameo...
