Pop Sweep: February 1, 2014...


Hey gang, it's time to kick off the first of today's "chart sweeps" checking out the songs making their way on to the singles charts in Billboard magazine. As always, I'll start with the pop charts and the "biggie"...

On Billboard's Hot 100, which combines radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming tallies, Pitbull and Ke$ha settle in for a third week at #1 with "Timber"...

The superstar pair or Shakira and Rihanna claim the top entry of the week at #28 with "Can't Remember To Forget You". Shakira, who topped the chart in 2006 with "Hips Don't Lie", was last on the chart in a cameo on Pitbull's "Get It Started", which peaked at #89 last year...

Chris Brown is back at #82 with "Loyal", the third single from his still-unreleased X album. It features rapper Lil' Wayne and either French Montana ("East Coast") or Too $hort ("West Coast"). It follow's "Love More", which just went to #23...


Country trio Rascal Flatts return at #83 with "Rewind". The group has had big crossover success, placing 14 songs in the top-40 on the Hot 100, with two reaching the top ten: "What Hurts The Most" and their cover of "Life Is A Highway" from Cars...



Blake Shelton's fourth single from his Based On A True Story album, "Doin' What She Likes", is in at #84. The second, "Boys 'Round Here", became his highest ranking single here at #12 last year...



 Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris enters at #93 with "Thinking About You" featuring Jordanian singer Ayah Marar. It's the sixth single from Harris' 18 Months album to make the Hot 100, and the other five all made the top-20, with "We Found Love" with Rihanna topping the list in 2011...


Like Harris' single, another top-10 dance airplay hit reaches the chart as "Take Me Home" from producing and remixing team Cash Cash from Roseland, New Jersey is in at #94. Its vocals are handled by Bebe Rexha from Brooklyn, who co-wrote Eminem's "The Monster"...


Husband and wife duo act Thompson Square come in at #95 with "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About". It's the follow-up to their #1 country hit "If I Didn't Have You", which made it to #49 on the Hot 100 last year..


The final debut of the week at #99 is the first for Australian worship band Hillsong United with "Oceans (Where Feet May Fall)"....


...and now on to the pop radio format charts...


On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, "Timber" climbs to #1 for the first time, while the aforementioned "Can't Remember To Forget You" is the top entry at #31...

The other new song at #40 is rapper Kid Ink with Chris Brown on "Show Me"...


Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" spends a sixth week on top...

Entering at #37 is British alternative rock band the 1975 with their first American hit "Chocolate". It's already a top-10 Triple-A rock hit...


Seattle singer/songwriter Mary Lambert interpolates her own contribution to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Same Love" to become her first lead-artist hit and my "Pop Pick of the Week" with "She Keeps Me Warm" at #38...



Provo's Neon Trees are back at #39 with "Sleeping With A Friend". The modern-rock band had topped this format in 2011 with "Everybody Talks"...


Rounding it out at #40 is American Idol season ninth-season winner Lee DeWyze with "Fight". Lee went to #23 on this chart in 2010 with "Sweet Serendipity"...


Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy-listening") chart, Katy Perry holds tight for a ninth non-consecutive week with "Roar", and there are no new songs on the list...
