Album Sweep: January 25, 2014...

It's time for this week's "album sweep", sampling the records making their first appearance on Billboard magazine's Top 200 Albums chart, as the soundtrack to Frozen spends a second week at #1, selling under 100K this week. (I've included highlighted links to buy any of the albums or other work when possible)...

The top debut of the week belongs to rapper Kid Ink, who arrives at #3 with his second full-length album and first top-10 effort, My Own Lane....

British newcomer John Newman comes in at #24 with his first full-length, Tribute. The set has two top-ten UK singles....

Portland, Oregon indie-rockers Stephen Malkmus and the Jinks enters at #40 with Wig Out at Jagbags. It's their sixth charting album and first to make the top-40...

Alt-rock band Misterwives come in at #84 with their six-song EP Reflections...

New York City's American Authors bring their self-titled EP on the chart at #174. It contains their breakthrough hit "The Best Day Of My Life"...

The final entry of the week at #183 is Peter Gabriel's collection Scratch My Back/And I'll Scratch Yours. It's a double set (the first part originally released in 2010) with the first half consisting of covers of his songs and the other with Peter recording the other artists' tracks...

That's it for this still-slow post-holiday week. Out of these six I would recommend the John Newman and Stephen Malkmus sets first...
