8 of the 80s: 1/23/14 (1986)...

I'm ready for this week's 80's throwback, and right now I've got eight more from 1986, the year Spain and Portugal entered the EU (European Union)...(I've included links to buy anything if possible)

The Firm - "All The King's Horses"
from the album Mean Business (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #61
Songwriter: Paul Rodgers

This song from this supergroup featuring Led Zep's Jimmy Page and Bad Company's Paul Rodgers sounds an awful lot like Asia. It topped the rock chart for a whole month back in 1986.

Loverboy - "Lead A Double Life"
from the album Lovin' Every Minute Of It (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #68
Songwriters: Paul Dean, Doug Johnson, Ted Johnson, Mike Reno, Davitt Sigerson, Bill Wray

The fourth single from the Canadian rockers' fourth album was their attempt to grab the new-wave market. That didn't go so well.

Peter Frampton - "Lying"
from the album Premonition (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #74
Songwriter: Peter Frampton

This nugget turned out to be the singer and guitarist's biggest hit of the 80s, topping out at #4 on the rock chart.

Bonnie Tyler - "If You Were A Woman (And I Were A Man)"
from the album Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #77
Songwriter: Desmond Child

The song's writer cribbed himself by co-opting this song's chorus melody for Bon Jovi's "You Give Love A Bad Name", with infinitely better results.

Joan Jett with the Beach Boys - "Good Music"
from the album Good Music (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #83
Songwriters: Joan Jett, Kenny Laguna

The punker got the legendary surf-rock group along with Darlene Love to sing on her overlooked fifth album...

Far Corporation - "Stairway To Heaven"
from the album Division One (1985)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #89
Songwriters: Jimmy Page, Robert Plant

Surprisingly, the only version of the Led Zeppelin masterpiece to make the official pop charts in America is this cover put together by the man behind Milli Vanilli, Frank Farian. Yeah, that's right.

Greg Kihn - "Love and Rock and Roll"
from the album Love and Rock and Roll (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #92
Songwriter: Greg Kihn

Guitarist Joe Satriani was part of Kihn's band's lineup when he released his so-far last pop hit.

Dennis DeYoung - "This Is The Time"
from the album Back To The World (1986)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #93
Songwriter: Dennis DeYoung

This single from the former Styx singer was featured in the second Karate Kid movie, though it didn't top the pop chart like the film's "Glory Of Love" from Peter Cetera (a fellow exile from a rock group)..

That's it for tonight...I'll return tomorrow with another Song of the Day and my top 100 songs from the week...
