Brit Sweep: December 1, 2013...


Hey gang, the weekend is finally at a close, and time to check out the songs reaching the official sales chart in England this week.....

The top-selling song of the week teams up Scottish DJ and producer Calvin Harris with Swedish dance music artist Alesso and British synthpop act Hurts for "Under Control", from Alesso's upcoming debut album. It's Harris' fifth trip to the #1 spot, and the first for both Alesso and Hurts....

British pop/rock "boy" band McFly return at #6 with "Love Is On The Radio". All but two of their 21 singles has reached the top ten in the UK, with a lucky seven of those going to #1. One of the mixes of the song pairs them with Busted another group that had the fervor that One Direction and the Wanted have right now in this country...


English house music DJ and producer Ben Westbeech, who records under the name of Breach, scores his second top ten hit at #9 with "Everything You Never Had (We Had It All)", my "Brit Pick of the Week". He went to the same rank with "Jack" last summer. Vocals are handled by London singer Andreya Triana.


Dutch producer Afrojack returns at #16 with "The Spark" featuring Spree Wilson. It's his fifth UK top -40 hit; he went to #1 as a featured artist on Pitbull's "Give Me Everything"...


British boyband One Direction claim the top album of the week with Midnight Memories, and five of its tracks sell enough of their own to debut on the singles chart this week to join "Story Of My Life" at #3 and "Best Song Ever" at #42. First up at #19 is "You & I"...


Next up at #21 is 1D's "Don't Forget Where You Belong"...


A repackaged version of Olly Murs' second album Right Place, Right Time is out, and the fifth single from the expanded set, "Hand On Heart", arrives on the top 100 at #25....


The eighth single from Justin Bieber's "Music Mondays" series, "Roller Coaster", drops in at #37. All eight have made the top-40 here..


The next One Direction track at #48 is "Strong"...


..and notch below at #49 is the title track to Midnight Memories...


The final 1D entry at #58 is "Diana"...


Mary J. Blige offers up her version of the Christmas classic "Do You Hear What I Hear" with British singer Jessie J at #59..


The final debut of the week is from American rapper and singer Pharrell Williams, who is back as a lead solo artist on "Happy", from the movie Despicable Me 2,  at #71. He's been a featured artist on two #1 UK hits this year, "Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky", but this is his first lead artist hit since 2006. To promote the single, Pharrell has made 24 hour-long music videos for each "hour" of the day for the song...
