Songoftheday 11/6/13 - As I watch you close the door with nothing to say, I remember us before love slipped away...

Naked Eyes - "(What) In The Name Of Love"
from the album Fuel For The Fire (1984)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #39 (two weeks)
Weeks in the Top-40: 2

Today's Song of the Day is by the synth-pop duo Naked Eyes, whose debut album spun off three top-40 hits in the US in 1983 with their remake of the Bacharach & David classic "Always Something There To Remind Me", dance-pop follow-up "Promises Promises", and the moody "When The Lights Go Out". The pair released their sophomore effort the next year, and the first single from the set, "(What) In The Name Of Love", was produced by dance mix master Arthur Baker, and was a busy little keyboard riff like "Promises..."...

"(What) In The Name Of Love" became Naked Eyes' fourth and final top-40 hit in America in September of 1984, doing the same on Billboard's dance club play chart.

After the relatively tepid response to the album, the duo were dropped from the label and split up. While singer Pete Byrne would become a studio musician, keyboardist Rob Fisher would go on to be half of another synthpop duo, Climie Fisher, and would return to the US top 40 with "Love Changes Everything". Sadly, Rob died after surgery for cancer in 1999.

Byrne would again perform with other musicians as Naked Eyes..

Up tomorrow: a former disco king illuminates. Twice.
