Rock Sweep: November 9, 2013...

Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" sampling the songs reaching the Billboard singles charts is up, and this time out it's the newest records on rock radio...

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, British alt-rockers Bastille spend a second week on top with "Pompeii"...

The high debut of the two entering are the Scottish synthpop trio Chvrches with a former "Rock Pick", "The Mother We Share". The single is already at #25 on the Modern Rock chart...

Just as last week I was surprised that it took so long for OneRepublic's "Counting Stars" to make the pop radio top-40, I'm doubly shocked it's only now that the song makes the big rock list at #50. It's already top-20 on the Triple-A format...

...and now on to the rock radio format sub-charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Avenged Sevenfold climbs back to #1 for an eleventh non-consecutive week with "Hail To The King"...

Australian hard rock trio Sick Puppies come in at #37 with "Gunfight", last week's "Rock Pick" and the second single from their Connect album. It also moves up to #34 on the Active Rock format...

The fifth single from Pennsylvania's Haletorm's The Strange Case Of..., "Mz. Hyde", enters at #39. The third release from the set, "Freak Like Me", topped this format earlier this year...

And crossing over at #40 is the former top-10 alternative rock hit "Elephant" by Tame Impala..

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock chart, the aforementioned "Pompeii" reigns for a third week...

The sole debut here at #37 is Kings Of Leon with the "Temple". It follows "Supersoaker", which went to #9 on this chart...

At the Triple-A (Adult Album Alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Avicii's "Wake Me Up!" dances around for a third week on top...

The higher of the two debuts at #29 and my "Rock Pick of the Week" is from the new "supergroup" Tired Pony, with Gary Lightbody of British modern rock band Snow Patrol, Richard Colburn of Belle & Sebastian, and Peter Buck of R.E.M. among others, arrive with "All Things All At Once"..

And following up her #1 hit on this format "Stompa" is singersongwriter Serena Ryder with "What I Wouldn't Do"...

On the harder-edged Active Rock radio panel, Avenged Sevenfold climb back to #1 with "Hail To The King" for an eleventh week, while the aforementioned "Mz. Hyde" is the sole debut at #37..

And lastly, at the older-skewing Heritage Rock format, "Hail To The King" spends week #10 on top...

Experimental metal band A Perfect Circle come in at #23 with "By And Down", which is at #27 on the Mainstream Rock list...

Black Sabbath claim the last entry at #25 with "Loner", the third single from their album 13...

That's it for the rock side of things..I'll be back in an hour and a half with the newest on R&B radio. Rock on!
