Pop Sweep: November 23, 2013...

I'm ready to kick off today's five part "chart sweeps" that check out the songs reaching the various singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start out with the "big kahuna" and the pop charts...

On Billboard's Hot 100, which tallies radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming, Lorde holds on to #1 for a seventh week with "Royals"...

Leaping on to the chart at #8 is Lady Gaga with the fourth track released from her just-released album ARTPOP. The difference with "Dope" is that is comes in this high due to YouTube views of her performance on the YouTube Awards as well as the audio track. Her first single, "Applause", hangs in at #10; it's been in the top ten its entire thirteen-week run...

Also making a "grand" entrance at #16 are newcomer duo A Great Big World, who nab a cameo from Voice mentor Christina Aguilera (who performed with him on the show), with "Say Something", this week's "Pop Pick Of The Week"...

Flag-desecrater Justin Bieber comes in at #53 with the fifth of his "Music Monday" offerings, "Bad Day"...

Well now that The Voice's third season is into its live shows, the whittled down slate of disposable singers are showing up on the charts. However, this week only one sells enough to make the Hot 100. It's James Wolpert with his take on Joni Mitchell's "A Case Of You". The album cut from her classic Blue album was a minor hit for Frank Stallone (yes, him) in 1984...

Hot mess Britney Spears returns at #76 with the second track from her upcoming Britney Jean project, "Perfume"...

The third single from Luke Bryan's Crash My Party album, "Drink A Beer", washes in at #79. Both the title track and "That's My Kind Of Night" made the top-20 on this chart....

After two singles from their album Golden, crossover country act Lady Antebellum just released a "deluxe version" of the set, and from it "Compass", their current country radio single, arrives on the Hot 100 at #87. Lead-off single "Downtown" went to #29 earlier this year...

Another "deluxe edition" track, this time from Hunter Hayes' debut album, comes in at #91. "Everybody's Got Somebody But Me" was re-recorded for the re-release with pop singer/songwriter Jason Mraz in a cameo..

The last entry on the chart at #99 is from Eminem, with a song featuring and co-written by Australian singer/songwriter Sia, "Beautiful Pain". After an outcry over her appearance on an album by the renewed homophobic dillweed, Sia is donating her cut of the profits to GLBT youth in Los Angeles....

and now onwards to the pop radio charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Avicii spends his third week on top with "Wake Me Up!"...

The sole entry at #28 is One Direction with their "Story Of My Life"...

Meanwhile, at the older-skewing Adult Pop Top-40 format, the aforementioned "Royals" is #1 for a third week...

Voice coach Adam Levine and his band Maroon 5 are band at #39 with the fifth single from their Overexposed album, "Lucky Strike". The other four ("Payphone", "One More Night", "Daylight", and "Love Somebody") all went to #1 on this format..

Pearl Jam comes in at #40 with their top-10 rock hit "Sirens"....

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or easy-listening) chart, Katy Perry's "Roar" racks up a third week on top...

Underage toker Miley Cyrus slides in at #25 with her former Hot 100 chart-topper, "Wrecking Ball"...

...and at #30 is neo-soul singer and songwriter John Legend with "All of Me"...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
