Pop Sweep: November 16, 2013...

It's time to kick off the first of today's five "chart sweeps" checking out the songs making the singles charts in Billboard magazine. As usual, I'll start out on the pop side of the spectrum...

On the "big chart", Billboard's Hot 100, Lorde reigns for a sixth week at #1 with "Royals"....

Two of this week's four entries come in within the top ten, and first off at #3 is the fourth track from Eminem's first album in three years, Marshall Mathers 2. "The Monster", which features Rihanna on the chorus, comes in at #3, matching the rank of first single "Berzerk" did ten weeks ago....

...and on the other end of the spectrum at #6 is British boy-band One Direction with "Story Of My Life", my "Pop Pick of the Week". It's now their fourth top ten single in the US, and second from their upcoming Midnight Memories album after "Best Song Ever" which went to #2 earlier this year...

Lady Gaga has the third entry at #32 with "Venus", the third preview track from her upcoming ARTPOP project. "Applause", the first single, has spent all twelve of its charting weeks in the top ten...

...and at #41 is the fourth of Justin Bieber's "Music Mondays" non-album singles, "Recovery". It's the first of the four to miss the top-40..

...and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel,  Avicii's "Wake Me Up!' spends a second week on top, while Eminem's "The Monster" is the top debut at #27...

Former "pop pick" "Do What U Want" by Lady Gaga with R. Kelly arrives at #39..

...and another "pop pick" comes in at #40, with British singer John Newman's "Love Me Again"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, the aforementioned "Royals" is at #1 for a second week...

The current rock airplay leader, "Pompeii" by British modern rock group Bastille, crosses over here at #38...

...and at #40 is Selena Gomez with "Slow Down"...

Lastly, on the adult contemporary (or easy-listening) chart, Katy Perry's "Roar" settles in for a second week on top, and there are no new entries...

That's it for this surprisingly short start of today's musical journey...I'll return in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
