Brit Sweep: November 24, 2013...


Hey gang, the weekend is coming to a close, and it's time to check out the songs reaching the top 100 on the just-released official sales chart in the United Kingdom this week, as Lily Allen squeaks by to collect her third #1 hit with "Somewhere Only We Know". Her other two #1s are "Smile" and "The Fear"...

The song Lily beat out by less than 700 copies is the mashup of two 90s Eurodance classics by the British modern rock band Bastille. "Of The Night" combines Corona's "Rhythm Of The Night" (which went to #2 in the UK in 1993) and Snap!'s "Rhythm Is A Dancer" (which topped the chart here in 1992). It's Bastille's second top-10 hit, with "Pompeii" also reaching #2 earlier in the year...

Placing at #3 is Gary Barlow, who was gone from Take That boyband frontman to X Factor mentor, with "Let Me Go". It's the first single from his upcoming Since I Saw You Last album which arrives tomorrow in England. He's had three solo #1 hits, with "Sing" his latest last year...


As Lily Allen tops the chart this week with her song from the John Lewis ad, she debuts at #9 with her proper single "Hard Out Here", my "Brit Pick of the Week", which makes her ninth appearance in the top ten...


 X Factor alums JLS are back at #19 with "Billion Lights", a new track from their final greatest hits set before splitting up. The vocal quartet has topped the singles chart here five times, the latest being "She Makes Me Wanna" in 2011...


Justin Bieber's seventh "Music Mondays" single, "PYD" with R. Kelly, become the seventh to make the top-40 here at #30...


"Veteran" Irish boyband Boyzone return at #39 with "Love Will Save The Day". The group has topped the charts here six times, with "You Needed Me" the most recent in 1999...


 The fourth single from Jason Derulo's Tattoos album, "Trumpets", blares in at #49. The second release from the set, "Talk Dirty", topped the chart here earlier this year...


Entering the chart at #62 is a special charity record by Kate Williams and Paul Hart. "Christmas Lullaby" was released to benefit Bradley Lowery, a child with a bad case of cancerous Neuroblastoma....
 

Newcomers the Luminites were seen on the seventh season of Britain's Got Talent last spring, and placed fifth in the competition. Now under Simon Cowell's wing, they come in at #65 with "Do Something"...


Rihanna moves up to #69 with the eighth song from her Unapologetic album to make the top 100 singles chart on its own, "What Now". The first, "Diamonds", topped the chart last year...


T-Pain autotunes himself into the #74 spot with "Up Down (Do This All Day)". He's been in the top ten in the UK twice, with "5 O'Clock" (with Lily Allen) reaching #6 in 2011...


British dance/electronica producer Naughty Boy (Shahid Khan) enters at #80 with "Think About It" with rapper Wiz Khalifa and singer Ella Eyre. It's the fifth single from his Hotel Cabana album - "La La La" from the set topped the chart earlier this year..


The fourth track from Jessie J's sophomore effort Alive to reach the chart is "Thunder", which arrives at #82. It follows "It's My Party", which went to #3...


The third track from Kanye West's Yeezus to make the top 100 is "Bound 2", which rides in at #84. "Black Skinhead" made it up to #34 earlier this year...


Nickelodeon TV star and singer Ariana Grande serves up her holiday offering "Last Christmas" at #92. She stopped right below the top-40 at #41 with "The Way"...


The final debut of the week at #100 belongs to a track from Britain's 1000th #1 album, Swings Both Ways by Robbie Williams. He's here with X Factor alum Olly Murs with "I Wanna Be Like You". Robbie's "Go Gentle" from the set also moves from #10 to #15...
