Pop Sweep: October 26, 2013...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's "chart sweeps" where I check out the songs making the singles charts in Billboard magazine, and as usual, I'll start off with the "big chart" and pop radio...

On Billboard's Hot 100, which combines data from radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming (like YouTube), Lorde remains at #1 for a third week with "Royals" *hooray!*...

The top entry of the week all the way at #17 belongs to Eminem, with the second single from his upcoming Marshall Mathers 2 album, "Survival". The first, "Berzerk", made it to #3 and this week is one notch higher than this one at #16...

As Miley Cyrus claims the top-selling album of the week this week with Bangerz, three of its tracks sell enough/got streamed enough separately to reach the singles chart. The highest (and probably future single-bound) is "Adore You", which enters right under the top-40 at #42. First single "We Can't Stop" moves up to #11 while "Wrecking Ball" holds at #2...

Cuban-American rapper Pitbull cannot stay away from the chart as his latest, "Timber" featuring tour-mate Ke$ha, falls in at #49. It's the first single from his upcoming unnamed eighth studio album. As a lead artist, he topped the chart in 2011 with "Give Me Everything"...

Pearl Jam are back on the Hot 100 for the first time in four year with the second single from their just-released Lightning Bolt album, "Sirens". Out of all their classic tracks, the only one to make the pop top-10 so far has been their cover of the oldies hit "Last Kiss" which went to #2 in 1999 (mind you, most of their biggest came before the magazine allowed non-physical singles to make the chart...

It took the death of star Cory Monteith to get enough exposure for the flailing Glee franchise to have their first hit from this season as Lea Michele's cover of the Bob Dylan-penned classic "Make You Feel My Love" comes in at #84. While the only previous version of the much-covered song to make this chart was Billy Joel's, which went to #50 in 1997, Garth Brooks topped the country radio list a year later, and Adele went to #4 on the British singles chart in 2010.

The second of Miley's entries at #87 is "Drive" (not the Cars, R.E.M., or Incubus song)...

Soul singer K. Michelle, who is in the cast of the "reality" show Love & HipHop: Atlanta, debuts at #90 with her first Hot 100 hit, "V.S.O.P."...

Country singer Jake Owen sends the first single and title track from his upcoming fourth album Days Of Gold to #91 on this list. It's already in the top-20 on country radio. So far Jake has one top-40 hit here with "Barefoot Blue Jean Night", which went to #21 in 2011...

The third of the new Cyrus tracks at #93 is "Someone Else"...

The fifth song from country singer Miranda Lambert's Four The Record, "All Kinds Of Kinds", rides in at #97. It follows "Mama's Broken Heart", which is her highest charting single on this list, peaking at #20 earlier this year...

"Newcomer" Chase Rice, who already is known for either a) being on the starve-for-dollars show Survivor: Nicaragua, or b) co-writing the #1 country single  "Cruise" for Florida Georgia Line, owns the final debut on the Hot 100 with his first hit "Ready, Set, Roll"...

...and now on to the pop radio charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Katy Perry's "Roar" spends a fifth week on top...

Coming in at #34 is Russo-German DJ/Producer Zedd with Hayley Williams from Paramore with "Stay The Night"...

Scottish songstress Emeli Sande enters at #36 with a former "Pop Pick", "My Kind Of Love"...

Another "Pop Pick" comes in at #38 as Englishman folk-rocker Mike Rosenberg, who records as Passenger, is in with "Let Her Go"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Hot Adult Top-40 format, "Roar" also commands for a fourth week..

The high entry here is Canadian rapper Drake, who sings into the #33 spot with "Hold On, We're Going Home"...

New York duo A Great Big World place their second single on this chart at "Say Something" arrives at #36. It's my "Pop Pick of the Week"...

Returning at #38 is British singer/songwriter James Blunt, who topped this chart back in 2005 with "You're Beautiful". He's in with "Bonfire Heart"...

And rounding it out at #40 is alt-rock band New Politics from Copenhagen, Denmark, as they debut with their former top-5 rock hit "Harlem"...

Finally, on the Adult Contemporary (or "easy-listening") chart, Anna Kendrick holds at #1 for a second week with "Cups (When I'm Gone)"...

The only debut here demonstrates the inevitability of Avicii's folk-dance mashup as "Wake Me Up" dances in at #27...

That's it for part one...I'll be back with the latest on rock radio....
