Pop Sweep: October 12, 2013...

I'm ready to kick off the first of today's five-part "chart sweeps" of the songs making their appearance on Billboard magazine's singles charts, and as always I'll begin with the latest on the pop side...

On the "big chart", Billboard's Hot 100, which combines data from radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming, we have a new champ, as 17 year old Lorde from New Zealand climbs to #1 with "Royals". Hooray!

There are eleven debuts on the chart this week, and ten of them are from Canadian rapper Drake, whose third full-length album Nothing Was The Same becomes his third #1 album. Ten of the songs from the set also sell enough, got enough airplay, and/or were streamed to make the singles chart (his "Hold On, We're Going Home" also jumps to #4, and "Wu-Tang Forever" drops to #61, while first single "Started From The Bottom" is already on the 'recurrent' chart).  First up at #20 is "All Me" featuring 2 Chainz and Big Sean...

Next up at #51 is "The Language"...

"Furthest Thing" drops in at #56...

"Too Much" enters at #64...

Drake's collab with Jay Z on the album, "Pound Cake/Paris Morton Music 2", lands at #65...

"From Time", featuring singer Jhene Aiko, comes in at #67...

At #78 is "Own It"...

The album's opening track, "Tuscan Leather", enters at #81...

One of the two "deluxe edition" tracks, "Come Thru", arrives at #87...

The final entry from Drake's album at #89 is "Worst Behavior"...

Whew. That's a little too much Drake for one sitting. Well the odd woman out, and this week's "Pop Pick Of the Week", is the young lady at #1, Lorde, with "Team".....

...and now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 radio panel, Katy Perry hangs on top for a third week with "Roar"...

Entering at #35 is the second single from the second installment of Justin Timberlake's 20/20 Experience project, "TKO"...

the other newbie at #40 is Rihanna with the ballad "What Now"...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format, "Roar" also commands for a second week....

The top debut at #35 is the fourth single from Bruno Mars' Unorthodox Jukebox set, "Gorilla"...

Miley Cyrus' former #1 Hot 100 single "Wrecking Ball" arrives at #39...

And coming in at #40 is John Mayer with girlfriend (?) Katy Perry with "Who You Love"...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary (or "Easy-listening") chart, Pink and Nate Ruess return to the top for a ninth non-consecutive week with "Just Give Me A Reason"...

...and Lorde makes it onto this chart as the sole debut at #24 with "Royals"...

That's it for the start of today's musical journey...I'll be back in 90 minutes with the latest on rock radio...
