Kraut Sweep: October 22, 2013..

Guten Abend Meine Freunde, I'm ready to cross the border to check out the new songs making the official sales chart in Germany this week...

...and we have a new winner as British singer/songwriter James Blunt arrives at the pole position with his latest single "Bonfire Heart". It's his first to go to #1; previously both "You're Beautiful" and "1973" went to #2 in this country...

German hiphop group Fettes Brot claim their biggest hit in five years as "Echo" comes in at #12. In 2008 they went to #3 with "Bettina, zieh dir bitte etwas an!" ("Bettina, please put on some clothes!")...

Sunrise Avenue, a pop/rock band from Finland, are in at #13 with "Lifesaver". They have previously gone to #3 twice with "Fairytale Gone Bad' in 2006 and "Hollywood Hills" (which spent time on my personal weekly chart as well) in 2011. It's my "German Pick of the Week" (well, Finnish)....(you can see the full video by clicking here)...

Justin Bieber swags in at #32 with "Heartbreaker"...it's his seventh top-40 hit in this country as a lead artist, but the highest he's reached as such is #14 with "One Time", his first single back in 2009 (he did reach the top-10 as a featured artist on Far East Movement and will.i.am tracks)..

Eminem also is in at #38 with "Survival", the second single from his upcoming Marshall Mathers 2 set. The first, "Berzerk", made it to #10..

Russo-German schlager singer Helene Fischer comes in at #46 with "Atemlos Durch Die Nacht" ("Breathless Through The Night"). She just went to #20 with "Fehlerfrei"...

Cher arrives on the German album sales chart at #6 this week, and two of its songs make the singles chart as well. First at #49 is her ballad "I Hope You Find It". Her first solo hit here was "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)" which went to #17 in 1966. She went to #1 in 1998 with "Believe"...

Austrian singer Marco Angelini, who competed on the German version of that country's Idol franchise, enters at #62 with "Wunder Gibt Es Immer Wieder" ("There Is Always Wonder")...

The other Cher single to land on the chart is the disco-fied "A Woman's World" at #66...

American post-grunge giants Pearl Jam rock in at #86 with "Sirens". They have yet to make the top-40 here...

Pitbull and Ke$ha team up at #90 for the first single from the former's upcoming album, "Timber"...

The final entry at #96 belongs to German indie-rock band Sportfreunde Stiller with "New York, Rio, Rosenheim" (the latter is a town in Bavaria in southeast Germany)..

That'll do for tonight...I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day, 6 of the 60s returns, and I'll recap what's up Down Under...Gute Nacht!
