Brit Sweep: October 6, 2013...

Hey gang, the end of the weekend is here, and it's time to check out the just-released official chart in Britain to see the songs arriving on the list this week.

The top-selling single of the week belongs to OneRepublic, who accomplished the rare feat of climbing to the top spot as "Counting Stars" moves to #1 in its tenth week on the chart. It's their first ever #1 here...

The #2 spot (by only a little over a thousand copies less than OneRepublic) is occupied by the Vamps, an English "boyband" that play instruments as well (see, Lawson). They toured with McFly (which they resemble just a tad) this year before their current gig with Selena Gomez. Their first single is  "Can We Dance"...

Drum and bass duo Chase & Status come in at #5 with the second single from their upcoming third album Brand New Machine, "Count On Me" with singer Moko. The first, "Lost & Not Found", went to #9 earlier this year.

My favorite rapper Dizzee Rascal's new album The Fifth enters the chart at #10, and the second official single from the set, "Something Really Bad" featuring will.i.am, is in on the singles chart in the same position. The first release, "Goin' Crazy" with Robbie Williams, came in at #5 a few months ago..

American hip-hop star Nelly is back at #19 with the follow-up to his top-ten hit "Hey Porsche". "Get Like Me" features the A-list cameos from Nicki Minaj and Pharrell Williams...

Hiphop dancehall fusion artist Fuse ODG also follows up a top ten hit ("Antenna") with "Azonto" at #30 featuring Itz Tiffany. Like Dizzee Rascal, he comes from Ghanian heritage...

Northern Irish alternative rock band Two Door Cinema Club place their first single in the UK top-40 with "Changing Of The Seasons", my "Brit Pick of the Week". It's from their just-released EP, and enters at #33...

Londoner grime rapper Maxsta debuts at #43 with his second chart entry, "Wanna Go", featuring Little Nikki. The title cribs of a line from Inner City's "Good Life"...

Because of its inclusion in the series finale of Breaking Bad, the track "Baby Blue" from classic power-pop band Badfinger comes on the chart at #73. The boys from Liverpool had three consecutive top-10 hits between 1969 and 1971, with "Come & Get It" reaching #4...

Australian singer/songwriter Sia lands at #79 with her track from the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack, "Elastic Heart". It features alt-soul musician Weeknd and remixer/producer Diplo. Sia topped the UK chart with "Titanium" with David Guetta. The Weeknd was a featured artist on Drake's UK top-40 hit "Crew Love"...

English "grime" artist JME, with family of Nigerian heritage, arrives at #82 with "Integrity". As a lead artist, he peaked one notch below the top-40 last year with "96 F**kries", but he was a credited artist on Wiley's #3 hit "Can You Hear Me (AYAYAYA)"...

American singer and YouTube tween star Austin Mahone comes in at #83 with "What About Love"...

Singer Sam Smith, who provided the vocals for Naughty Boy's #1 hit "La La La", debuts on his own at #86 with "Safe With Me"...

Producer Mike Will-Made-It takes his Miley Cyrus-fueled "23" on to the chart here at #90. It also has cameos from rappers Wiz Khalifa and Juicy J..

The final entry on the top-100 is a single that originally missed this level when it was released in 1997. "Kissing You" is by singer Des'ree, who made the top-40 in this country six times in the 90's, with "Life" from the same album as this one reaching #8. This record was originally in Baz Luhrmann's film adaptation of Romeo & Juliet...

That's it for tonight... thanks for stopping by, and I'll return tomorrow with another Song of the Day, part two of this week's "album sweep", and my "robbed hit of the week". Cheers!
