8 of the 80s: 10/3/13 (1983)...

I'm ready for today's 80's throwback, and right now I've got eight more nuggets from 1983, the year Neil Kinnock was elected leader of the Labour Party in the United Kingdom. (I've included links to buy anything if available)..

Mac McAnally - "Minimum Love"
from the album Nothing But The Truth (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #41
Songwriters: Mac McAnally, Jerry Wexler

This singer/songwriter was recently on the charts as a featured artist on Kenny Chesney's cover of his song "Down The Road", which went to #1 on the country chart in 2008.

Bee Gees - "Someone Belonging To Someone"
from the album Staying Alive (Original Soundtrack) (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #49
Songwriters: Barry, Maurice, and Robin Gibb

The second of the brothers' singles from the sequel to Saturday Night Fever, I always thought this was as good as "How Deep Is Your Love".

Robbie Patton with Stevie Nicks - "Smiling Islands"
from the album Orders From Headquarters (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #52
Songwriters: David Adelstein, Robbie Patton

Christine McVie produced and Stevie Nicks appears on Patton's hit from 1983; the year before he co-wrote the Fleetwood Mac top-10 hit "Hold Me"..

Firefall - "Always"
from the album Break Of Dawn (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #59
Songwriters: Paul Crosta, John Sambataro

The 70s soft-rock band goes for the power-ballad with their last top-40 adult-contemporary single, chord-change and all.

Marty Balin - "What Love Is"
from the album Lucky (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #63
Songwriters: Greg Prestopino, Brock Walsh

The former Jefferson Airplane/Starship singer's second solo set shared a producer with Kim Carnes, but he didn't get traction with this latter-day MOR song that would've done much better a year earler.

Toto - "Waiting For Your Love"
from the album Toto IV (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #73
Songwriters: Bobby Kimball, David Paich

I was waiting for this, the fifth single from the band's classic Grammy-winning album, to follow the other four to the top-40; but I guess everyone either had the album or were Toto'd out.

Chicago - "What You're Missing"
from the album Chicago 16 (1982)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #81
Songwriters: Jay Gruska, Joseph Williams

Another big-name production that I had hoped to make the top-40, but they'd make up for it on their next effort, with 4 top-40 hits.

B.J. Thomas - "Whatever Happened To Old Fashioned Love"
from the album New Looks (1983)
Billboard Hot 100 peak: #93
Songwriter: Lewis Anderson

This country #1 hit for the 70s pop singer dented the Hot 100 as his last appearance on the big chart.

That'll do for this week's 80s trip...I'll be back tomorrow with another Song of the Day and my top 100 tunes for the week. Cheers!
