Rock Sweep: October 5, 2013...

Round two of this week's "chart sweeps" is up, and this time I've got the latest songs hitting rock radio per Billboard magazine..

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart, Lorde's "Royals" reigns for a sixth week....

The top debut of the week all the way up at #15 is the collaboration between neo-metal group Linkin Park with DJ Steve Aoki on "A Light That Never Comes" from their upcoming remix album Recharged. I already featured it on the "pop sweep", and it's my "Rock Pick of the Week"...

The second single from Pearl Jam's upcoming Lightning Bolt album, "Sirens" barrels in at #28. The first, "Mind Your Manners", made it to #6 a few weeks ago. And holy shit, they have a music performance video! This track is a nice counterpoint to the more raucous earlier single...

Las Vegas modern rock heroes The Killers are back at #40 with a new track from their upcoming Direct Hits compilation, "Shot At The Night". It's a nice back-to-basics synthpop tune that's thankfully not overblown...

Chester Bennington does double duty as the Linkin Park singer also is featured on the song that debuts at #42. "Black Heart" is the second charting song he's collaborated on after "Out Of Time" which reached #15. This new one sounds like nothing of Chester's work with LP, and fits really well with the slinky guitar licks of STP...

Fall Out Boy drop in at #49 with "The Phoenix", which moves up to #35 on the Modern Rock format list. I'm hoping this eventually catches on with pop radio as well..

Rounding it out at #50 are Stone Sour with "Tired", which is in at #16 on the mainstream rock chart...

...and now for the rock radio format sub-charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Avenged Sevenfold hang in for a seventh week with "Hail To The King"...

The sole entry at #40 is West Virginian metal band Bobaflex with "Bad Man" (it's up to #37 on Active Rock)...

Meanwhile, over on the Modern Rock/Alternative chart,  Lorde's "Royals" tallies a lucky seventh week on top, while the aforementioned Linkin Park and Pearl Jam tracks are the two entries at #19 and #39 respectively...

At the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, "Royals" is also at #1 for a sixth week, while two crossover hits from alternative radio come on the chart..

First at #28 are Canadians Arcade Fire, who get help from David Bowie on "Reflektor", which also moves to #24 on the alt-rock list...

...and as Bastille's "Pompeii" jumps to #4 on that chart, it arrives on this one at #29...

On the harder-edged Active Rock radio panel, "Hail To The King" is on top for a seventh week...

Coming in at the bottom rung, #40, is In This Moment with "Whore"...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock chart, Avenged Sevenfold are on top for week five with "Hail To The King"...

And coming in at #25 are Five Finger Death Punch with "Battle Born"...

That's it for the rock radio charts...I'll be back in an hour and a half with the latest on R&B radio. Rock on!
