Pop Sweep: September 28, 2013...

I'm ready to kick off today's five part 'chart sweeps' checking out the songs reaching the singles charts in Billboard magazine, and as usual I'll start off with the pop side of the house...

On the "big" chart, Billboard's Hot 100, which combined radio airplay, sales, and internet streaming numbers, Miley Cyrus twerks herself to her first #1 record with "Wrecking Ball", leaping from #22 to #1...

The top debut of the week at #51 is DJ/producer Zedd with "Stay The Night" featuring Hayley Williams of the rock band Paramore on vocals. It follows his former top-10 hit "Clarity"...

Miley also has a hand in the next entry as producer Mike WiLL Made It comes in at #70 with "23". It also features rappers Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa. It's Mike's first charting hit...(PS Lord, is this awful)

Rapper Future enters at #75 with the second single from his Honest album, the title track. The first, "Karate Chop", topped out at #82...

Bronx native Romeo Santos is in at #79 with his "Propuesta Indecente". The bachata star has had two other Hot 100 hits, and this is his highest so far...

As Keith Urban barely scrapes by with the #1 album of the week, the second single from the set, "We Were Us" with Miranda Lambert, enters at #80. The first, "Little Bit Of Everything" reached #33 on the big chart while topping the country list...

Canadian rapper Drake is still in the top-10 with "Hold On We're Going Home", and "Wu-Tang Forever" joins it at #88...

2 Chainz is back at #94 with the first single from his just-released sophomore album, "I Do It". It features the aforementioned Drake and Lil' Wayne. He's had four top-40 hits as a lead artist, with his equal-billing collab with Kanye West, Jay Z, and Pusha T, "Mercy", going to #13...

Two slow-burn country singles finally make their debut on the "big" chart this week. First, Craig Campbell's "Outta My Head", which is in the country top-20 in its 50th week, pops in here at #96. It's his third Hot 100 hit - "Fish" made it to #83 two years ago...

Also in the country top-20 in its 36th week is newcomer Charlie Worsham with his first hit "Could It Be"...

The final entry on the big list at #99 is alternative rock heroes Arcade Fire with "Reflektor". It features David Bowie on backup vocals, but it is the first song to reach the big pop chart for the Grammy-winners for Album of the Year...

And now on to the pop radio format charts...

On the Mainstream Top-40 pop radio panel, last week's Hot 100 #1, Katy Perry's "Roar", climbs to the top...

Bruno Mars claims the top entry at #30 with "Gorilla"...

The current #1 song on the big chart, Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball", enters the top-40 chart at #35...

Fall Out Boy jump in at #38 with "Alone Together", the third single from their excellent Save Rock And Roll album...

Imagine Dragons' top-5 rock hit "Demons" finally crosses over to pop radio at #39...

And at #40 is R&B/hiphop singer/rapper J. Cole with his top-5 R&B hit "Crooked Smile" featuring TLC...

Meanwhile, on the older-skewing Adult Top-40 format,  Robin Thicke still rules for a sixth week with "Blurred Lines"...

The big entry at #38, and my "Pop Pick of the Week", is Scottish singer Emeli Sande with "My Kind Of Love".  It follows "Next To Me", which made it to #3...

On the other end of the spectrum at #39 is songwriter Bonnie McKee with her craptacular "American Girl"....

...and rounding it out at #40 is One Direction with their former Hot 100 #2 hit, "Best Song Ever"...

Lastly, on the Adult Contemporary chart, Phillip Phillips holds tight for a fourth week with "Gone, Gone, Gone"...

The only debut here at #29 is neo-crooner Michael Buble with "Close Your Eyes", a future wedding-reception standard...

That does it for the pop side of the house...I'll return in 90 minutes with the newest on rock radio...
