French Sweep: Septermber 17, 2013...






It's time to cross the Atlantic to check out the latest French music charts to see what new songs are showing up on their top-100, as Belgian singer/songwriter Stromae scores his second #1 hit from his excellent Racine Carree' album, "Formidable"...

The top entry of the week at #31 are British modern rock kings Coldplay with their song from the new Hunger Games movie Chasing Fire, "Atlas". It's their lucky seventh top-40 hit in France; two have reached the top-10 tier, with "Paradise" hitting #5 in 2011...

French-Canadian icon Celine Dion returns at #36 with her latest, "Love Me Back To Life". Her first top-40 hit in this country was back in 1988 with "Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi", and since then she's racked up 31 of them, with five of them topping the chart. The last one, "Et S'il N'en Restait Qu'un", was in 2007...


French rapper La Fouine comes in at #45 with "Fete Des Meres", the seventh song from his DrĂ´le de parcours album to reach the top-100....


Another rapper, Kaaris, scores his third hit of the year at #51 with "Paradis ou Enfer" ("Heaven or Hell")...


The British glam-rock band The Darkness enter at #52 with their 2003 single "I Believe In A Thing Called Love"...


The rap collective Sexion D'Assaut has already spun off a solo success with Maitre Gims, and now Black M, who hails from the West African nation of Guinea originally before growing up in Paris, comes in at #63 with "Alleurs" ("Elsewhere")...


Singer/Songwriter Pascal Obispo, from the southwest central city of Bergerac, is in at #69 with "D'un Ave' Maria". He's had 20 top-40 singles in France since 1992, and one of those, "Fan" in 2003, topped the chart...


Classic heavy metal band Led Zeppelin surprisingly score their first top-100 single in France at #82 with "Whole Lotta Love"...


Pop-rap stars Flo Rida and Pitbull team up at #92 with "Can't Believe It". Flo has had seven top-10 hits here as either a main or featured artist, and Pitbull can claim nine (with two #1s - "I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)" and "On The Floor" with J-Lo)...


Jamaican pop/dancehall singer Sean Paul has the final entry of the week with "Other Side Of Love" at #97. He's had seven top-10 hits here so far, with "She Doesn't Mind" reaching #3 in 2011..
