French Sweep: September 3, 2013...

It's time to cross the Atlantic yet again to check out the songs making their appearance on the official top-100 singles chart in France this week, as Swedish dance artist Avicii takes over the top spot with "Wake Me Up"....

The act Avicii deposes, Belgian singer/songwriter Stromae, probably wouldn't mind, since not only does he have the #2 and #3 singles in this country with "Papaoutai" and "Formidable", but also has the #1 album in France this week with Racine Carree', and a few of its tracks sold enough on their own to make the singles charts. First off at #27 and my "French Pick of the Week" in "Tous Les Memes" ("All The Same"), which he previewed on this daring little Victor/Victoria -style promo from Venice back in February. There seems to be one big album from this country I must grab, and this is definitely the one for this one (it's available on Amazon MP3 here in the States)...

Next up at #43 Stromae teams up with rappers Maitre Gims (himself a former #1 artist) and Orelsan with "AVF"...

He's in again at #70 with "Ta Fete" ("Your Party")...

Taking a break from the Belgian we have a track from the sequel to the #1 collaborative album Generation Goldman celebrating the work of songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman (which happened to be the French record I imported last year). Billed under the moniker "Collegiale", "No Mains" ("No Hands") is in at #72....

The last of Stromae's tracks to come on the top-100, "Batard" ("Bastard"), arrives at #75...

Parisian musician John Mamann & Kika enter at #79 with "Love Life"...

The final entry at #94 is German DJ Wanklemut, who is best known for his remix of Asaf Avidan's "One Day/Reckoning Song" that was a huge international hit last year, now as a lead artist with Emma Louise on vocals on "My Head Is A Jungle"...

That's it for the latest here...I'll return later with the newest to make the grade in Germany...Au revoir!
