Album Sweep: October 5, 2013 - Part Two...


It's time for part two of this week's Album Sweep sampling the records making their first appearance on Billboard magazine's Top 200 Albums chart. You can check out part one by clicking here, and as usual I've included links to buy anything if possible.

Coming in at #48 is New Zealand indie-rock group The Naked And Famous with their second album In Rolling Waves. Their first, Passive Me, Aggressive You made it to #91 in 2010 (maybe the success of fellow countrywoman Lorde will help)...

Christian blues-rocker Jonny Lang ascends to #50 with Fight For My Soul. Ten years ago, his Long Time Coming set went to #17...


Disney Channel star Zendaya plays Rocky Blue on the show Shake It Up, where shes been on three top-40 soundtracks, and now her self-titled debut album shakes up the chart at #51...


One-man rock act Five For Fighting (John Ondrasik) enters at #54 with his sixth album Bookmarks. In 2006 his Two Lights record went to #8...


Princeton, New Jersey power-pop band Saves The Day see their self-titled eighth album come in at #56. Ten years ago their In Reverie reached #27...


Singer/songwriter and former leader of alt-rock group Soul For Coughing, Mike Doughty is back at #65 with Circles Super Bon Bon and the Best Of Soul For Coughing, which is a collection of reworked songs by the artist. It's his best rank as a solo artist; with the band he did make it to #49 with El Oso in 1998...


Luis Coronel enters at #80 with his Latin set Con la Frente en Alto...


Lo-fi singer/songwriter Bill Callahan debuts at #94 with Dream River. He also has recorded under the moniker Smog...


British modern rock act Placebo are in at #98 with their seventh studio set Loud Like Love. Their last, Battle For The Sun, peaked at #51 in 2009...


Massachussetts lo-fi band Sebadoh place their eighth studio album Defend Yourself at #105...


Iconic heavy metal and semi-comic act GWAR have been recording for 25 years now, and their 13th studio set Battle Maximus stomps in at #109. Five of the costumed rockers' albums reached the top half of the chart with Violence Has Arrived going to #62 in 2001..


Rapper Prozak returns at #122 with his third full-length We All Fall Down. His last, Paranormal, went to #90 last year...


Musician and in-demand producer Butch Walker gets his own EP Peachtree Battle on the chart at #127. His last full-length, The Spade, went to #105 in 2011..Recently he's been at the controls on Fall Out Boy's Save Rock And Roll, Taylor Swift's Red, and Pink's The Truth About Love albums...


Dayton, Ohio neo-rock group Dangerkids debut at #134 with Collapse...


The final entry of the week at #161 is metalcore band Eyes Set To Kill from Phoenix with their fifth set Masks. It's their first to make the "big" chart...


That's it for the second half of the new crop...out of these fifteen the three I would recommend first are the Naked and Famous, Placebo, and Five for Fighting albums...
