Rock Sweep: August 31, 2013...

Hey gang, it's round two time for this week's belated "chart sweeps" tracking the songs reaching the radio charts in Billboard magazine, and now I'm up to the latest on rock radio...

And in a development as important (if not more so) to the GaGa/Perry chase on the pop chart, after two dozen weeks at #1, Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" has been deposed to #2 on the Hot Rock Airplay chart, and it took the first chart-topping solo female hit to do it as Lorde's "Royals" is the new champion on the aggregate rock list. Congrats!

The top entry on the main rock radio chart at #41 is neo-metal veterans Korn with the first single from their upcoming October release The Paradigm Shift. "Never Never" is already at #21 on both the Mainstream and Active rock formats, and it's my "Rock Pick of the Week"...

Singer/songwriter Matt Nathanson enters at #45 with "Mission Bells", which is in the top-5 on the Triple-A chart...

The last entry on the main rock list at #47 is modern rock outfit Thirty Seconds To Mars with "City Of Angels", which also moves up to #23 on that genre's own chart...

...and onwards to the individual radio format sub-charts...

on the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Avenged Sevenfold's "Hail To The King" reigns for a second week...

The big debut at #35 is the fifth single from Shinedown's Amaryllis album, "Adrenaline". Three of the other four topped the chart, while the fourth "I'll Follow You", didn't do so bad at #2...

The second release from alt-metal band Sevendust's Black Out The Sun, "Picture Perfect", comes in at #37. It follows "Decay" which was their fourth top-10 hit on this format...

and at #39 is Pop Evil with the follow-up to their #1 "Trenches", "Deal With The Devil"....

Meanwhile, on the Alternative/Modern Rock format, the aforementioned "Royals" spends a second week on top...

Entering at #37 is AFI (or A Fire Inside) with "17 Crimes". They topped this format back in 2006 with "Miss Murder"...

...and dancing in at #40 is Swedish DJ/producer Avicii with his folk-club melange of "Wake Me Up!" with vocals by Aloe Blacc. I love this song despite it's pathetic Ralph Lauren ad of a video...

At the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") chart, Lorde makes a trifecta as "Royals" takes over the #1 position, while the song above, Avicii's "Wake Me Up!", arrives at #22...

The other debut at #27 is the third single from American Idol winner Phillip Phillips' debut album, "Where We Came From"....

On the harder-edged Active Rock radio panel, "Hail To The King" holds for a second week at #1, while the three debuts are the previously shown Shinedown (#34), Sevendust (#36), and Pop Evil (#37) tracks...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock format, the Weiland-less Stone Temple Pilots spend a third week on top with "Out Of Time", while Korn's "Never Never" is the top entry at #19...

The other new song on this chart at #23 is Stone Sour with "Tired", which is also top-30 on the Mainstream and Active rock charts...

Up next I'll serve up the newest on R&B radio. Rock on!
