Rock Sweep: August 17, 2013...

It's time for round two of today's "chart sweeps" sampling the new songs making the Billboard radio charts this week, and this time I've serving up the latest on rock radio..

On the composite Rock Airplay chart, the monolith that is Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive" refuses to deteriorate as it's at #1 for a 23rd week...

The sole debut of the week is the "rock pick" of last week, Panic at The Disco's "Miss Jackson", at #44. It also moves up eight spots on the Modern Rock list as well to #24..

and now on to the rock format "sub-charts"...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, the Stone Temple Pilots climb to #1 with "Out Of Time", their first without canned lead singer Scott Weiland (Linkin Park's Chester Bennington fills in on vocals). Previously they've had six chart-toppers on this format, dating back to 1993's "Plush"...

There also is only one entry on this chart, as Alice In Chains pop in at #40 with "Voices", the third single from their The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here album. It's also my "Rock Pick of the Week"...

Over at the Alternative/Modern Rock format, the Neighbourhood settle in on top for an eleventh week with "Sweater Weather"...

Making a pattern there's one single entry this week, and it's the second single from Thirty Seconds To Mars' Love, Lust, Faith and Dreams album, "City Of Angels". It follows "Up In The Air" which reached #3 earlier this year...

Meanwhile, on the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") chart, Jack Johnson surfs to #1 with "I Got You"...

My, my, there's only one new song here, as Michael Franti & Spearhead follow up their top-5 AAA hit with "Life Is Better With You"...

At the harder-edge Active Rock radio panel,Five Finger Death Punch with Rob Halford remain on top for a third week with "Lift Me Up", as the aforementioned "Voices" is the top entry at #39...

And right under that at #40 is Vegas hard rock band Otherwise with the third single from their major-label debut, "Die For You"...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock format, the Stone Temple Pilots move to #1, while no songs make the list...

That'll do for round two....I'll return in an hour and a half with the newest on R&B radio. Rock on!
