Brit Sweep: August 18, 2013...

The end of the weekend is here, and it's time to check out the songs reaching the just-released official chart in Britain this week...

The top-selling song in the UK is the first #1 for Ellie Goulding in her home country with "Burn". Previously her cover of Elton John's "Your Song" was her highest, reaching #2 in 2010...

Rocketing in at #5 with only a couple days of sales is the new track from Lady GaGa, "Applause". The singer has racked up four #1 hits in Britain, "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" from her debut album, and "Bad Romance" and "Telephone" from the Fame Monster revamp...

The third single from the alternative rock group Arctic Monkeys' fifth album AM which will come out in September becomes their first top-10 hit in six years as "Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High"....

British "Boy-band" the Wanted are back at #10 with the fourth top-10 hit from their upcoming third album Word Of Mouth, "We Own The Night"....

DJ Ray Foxx debuts at #12 with has first hit "Boom Boom (Heartbeat)" featuring Welsh vocalist Rachel K. Collier. She had previously had a minor UK hit last year with "Hard Road To Travel"...

English indie-rockers the Vaccines return at #44 with "Melody Calling". They've placed four of their singles in the UK top-40, with the racy "Post Break-up Sex" making it to #32 in 2011...

The fourth single from singer/hottie Olly Murs' Right Place Right Time is the title track, and it enters at #71....

While the German hit single "Sonnentanz" by Klangkarussell is getting popular on the vacation circuit, the record isn't available in the UK as yet, so one of those "copycat" recordings by "Select Hits" sells enough to come on the chart at #79...

British rapper/singer Baby Blue comes in at #83 with her first solo hit "Bump". She was featured on the Matrix & Futurebound single "Magnetic Eyes" which went to #24 last year...

That's it for tonight...I'll return tomorrow with another Song of the Day, part two of this week's "album sweep", and my "robbed hit" of the week. Cheers!
