Rock Sweep: July 20, 2013...


It's time for round two of today's "chart sweeps" where I check out the songs making the new radio charts in Billboard magazine, and this time it's the latest on rock radio...

On the aggregate Rock Airplay chart (with all rock formats included), Imagine Dragons end up at #1 for an incredible 19th week with "Radioactive"...

 The top debut on the chart at #41 is British indie-rock act Bastille with "Pompeii". The song also shoots up 15 spots to #23 on the Alternative rock list...

Industrial rock group Filter returns at #44 with "What Do You Say", which is already up to #16 on the Mainstream Rock format...


The third entry at #49 is Pennsylvania rock band Halestorm with "Here's To Us", which is also at #17 at Mainstream Rock...


...and now on to the radio format sub-charts...

On the Mainstream Rock radio panel, Pop Evil clings to #1 for a second week with "Trenches"...

Leaping in at #26 is horror-rock king Rob Zombie with "We're An American Band", a cover of the Grand Funk Railroad chart-topper from 1973...


Canadian one-man rock act Redlight King is in at #34 with "Born To Rise". In 2011 he went to #3 with "Bullet In My Hand"...


The third entry here at #40 is Welsh metalcore outfit Bullet For My Valentine, with "Breaking Point". They took "Your Betrayal" to #5 on this chart in 2010..


Meanwhile, on the Modern Rock/Alternative chart, The Neighbourhood collects a seventh non-consecutive week at #1 with "Sweater Weather"...

Scottish modern rock group Franz Ferdinand return at #39 with "Right Action", their first in four years. They have had three top-10 hits on this chart, with breakthrough "Take Me Out" reaching #3 in 2004...This is my "Rock Pick of the Week"...


Debuting at #40 is Texan indie-rock band the Unlikely Candidates with "Follow My Feet"...


At the Triple-A (adult album alternative, or "hipster rock") format, Walk Off The Earth stick around at #1 for a third week with "Red Hands", and there are no new entries on the chart...

On the harder-edged Active Rock radio panel, Pop Evil's "Trenches" is on top for a second week, while the aforementioned Rob Zombie, Redlight King, and Bullet For My Valentine tracks debut at #26, #32, and #39 respectively...

Lastly, on the older-skewing Heritage Rock chart, "I'll Follow You" by Shinedown remains at #1 for an eighth week...

Jumping in at #18 is Christian hard rock band P.O.D. with "Beautiful"...


...and at #22 are grunge veterans Soundgarden with "Halfway There"...
