French Sweep: July 2, 2013...


Hey guys, it's time to cross the Atlantic for this week's sample of the records reaching the official French music charts this week, as Robin Thicke spends a third week on top with "Blurred Lines"...

The top entry of the week belongs to Parisian rapper Booba, who leaps in at #11 with "Turfu". He has reached the top-10 here twice, with the football-themed AC Milan going to #7 earlier this year...

Swedish DJ/producer Avicii returns with "Wake Me Up" featuring British soul singer Aloe Blacc. It's Avicii's fifth top-40 hit in this country; his "Seek Bromance" went to #12 in 2010...


Veteran French singer Florent Pagny, from the east-central town of Chalon-Sur-Saone, arrives at #51 with "Les Murs Porteurs" ("Bearing Walls"). Since 1988 he has topped the chart here three times, most recently with "Ma Liberte de Penser" in 2003...

...The Aikiu debut at #65 with "Win" featuring JD Samson..


Britney Spears is back at #73 with her single from the upcoming Smurfs 2 movie, "Ooh La La". Brit-Brit went to #1 in France with her debut "Baby One More Time", again in 2007 with "Womanizer" (natch), and this year with will.i.am's "Scream & Shout"...


British indie-rockers Arctic Monkeys pop in at #89 with "Do I Wanna Know?". They have sent one song to the top-40 in France - "Crying Lightning" in 2009...


DJ Gesafflestein, from the city of Lyon, enters at #96 with his first hit "Pursuit"...(This reminds me of industrial duo Nitzer Ebb)...It's my "French Pick of the Week"...(NSFW)


The last debut of the week is by Italian house music act Bloody Beetroots, who scored a ringer with "Out Of Sight" featuring Paul McCartney and producer Youth...
