French Sweep: July 16, 2013...


Hey gang, I'm back with this week's new songs from the official French music charts, as Daft Punk climbs back to #1 for an eighth non-consecutive week with "Get Lucky"...

The top-debut is from an album from a collective of artists under the banner of "Tropical Family", which has an album that came in at #5 this week. A cut from the project, a remake of the bachata song "Obsession" by Aventura done by Lucenzo and Kenza Farah, comes in at #23. The original was a #1 hit in this country in 2004...

French girl-group The Mess, who won the last season of the singing competition Popstars, comes in at #34 with their first single, "Au Top"...


Veteran new wave group Depeche Mode enter at #45 with "Soothe My Soul"...


 Singer Sophie Tith, who won France's version of American Idol, Nouvelle Star, back in February enters with two songs this week. First at #68 is her cover of Elton John's "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word"...



French hip-hop duo Casseurs Flowters arrives at #70 with their first single "Bloque" ("Blocked"). Member Orelsan went to #9 in 2011 with "La Terre est Ronde"...


EDM superduo Duck Sauce, made of Armand van Helden and A-Trak, dance in at #76 with "It's You". The pair went all the way to #3 in 2010 with "Barbra Streisand"...


Florent Mothe who starred in the successful Mozart, L'Opera Rock, debuts at #79 with "Les blessures qui ne se voient pas" ("The Unseen Injuries"). It's my "French Pick of the Week"...


Colombian-born singer Carolina Marquez, who now lives in Rome, enters at #81 with "Sing La La La" featuring rapper Flo Rida and soca singer Dale Saunders. It's an interpolation of the song "Around The World (La La La)", a Russian pop song made famous by the German group ATC in 2000...


The second entry from Sophie Tith, a version of Ed Sheeran's "The A Team", is in at #99...


The final debut of the week at #100 is by alt-electronica group Major Lazer, who are already at #5 with "Watch Out For This (Bumaye)". Their new one, "Bubble Butt" includes Bruno Mars on the chorus and Tyga and Mystic on guest rap...
