Brit Sweep: July 21, 2013...






The end of the weekend is upon us, and time to check out the just-released official singles chart in Britain this week...

The top-selling single of the week, pushing over a quarter of a million copies, is Swedish DJ/producer Avicii, with "Wake Me Up" featuring vocals by California soul singer Aloe Blacc. It's Tim Bergling's second #1 hit after "I Could Be The One" earlier this year...

Leaping in at #8 is formey Disney princess Selena Gomez with her first "solo" hit "Come & Get It". Along with backing band The Scene Gomez went to #7 in 2010 with "Naturally"...


Dancing in at #9 is newcomer Breach bringing back the late 80s to the chart with "Jack", my "Brit Pick of the Week"...


Canadian singer and Nickelback plaything Avril Lavigne returns to the chart at #14 with "Here's To Never Growing Up". In the "naughties" Avril placed seven singles in the top-10 in the UK, with 2007's "Girlfriend" reaching the #2 spot...


Former X Factor UK finalist and "out" musician Lucy Spraggan enters at #26 with "Lighthouse". Last year she took "Last Night" to #11 as she was competing...


After a three year break American rock trio Kings Of Leon are back at #32 with "Supersoaker". In 2008 the boys topped the British chart with "Sex On Fire", still one of the biggest singles of that decade...


Justin Timberlake previews the second installment of his 20/20 Experience project at #45 with "Take Back The Night"...


Greek/British rapper K. Koke comes in at #52 with "My Time" featuring New Yorker Bridget Kelly. Koke reached #18 with his last single, "Lay Down Your Weapons"...


Scottish electropop trio Chvrches score their second chart hit at #55 with "Gun"...


Las Vegas modern rock outfit Panic At The Disco enter at #61 with "Miss Jackson", the first single from their upcoming fourth album Too Weird To Live, To Rare To Die. Their biggest hit in this country so far is 2008's "Nine in the Afternoon", which made it to #13...


American hard rock band Avenged Sevenfold place at #76 with "Hail To The King". So far they have racked up six singles on the UK top-100 though so far none have made the top-40 with 2006's "Beast And The Harlot" coming the closest at #44...


Lana Del Rey saunters in at #82 with her "Summertime Sadness". She reached #9 with both of her first two singles "Video Games" and "Born To Die"...


The final debut at #84 is remixers Show N Prove with "Zimma Frame"...
